I've been reading for a while now, but haven't posted. My son has an LOA and noms for USMA, and is in the application process for USMMA. He is going through the DodMERB remedial process. He has filled out the allergy and headache questionnaires and we have sent in all medical records since birth. He also wrote letters addressing both concerns and sent those in with the records.

The allergy questionnaire was due to an asthma diagnosis as a child (age 2 - 7) and a diagnosis of exercise induced at age 15. He mentioned feeling tight in his chest to the pediatrician after swimming a 500 yd race in a poorly ventilated pool, and the ped. prescribed albuterol and called it exercise induced. Son has never used his inhaler. Pediatrician wrote a letter saying that he is asymptotic in regards to asthma and that asthma is not a medical concern.

The headache questionnaire was due to 2-3 migraines per year. He has always handled with OTC meds and rest. Last June, we mentioned it to pediatrician at his regular checkup, and the dr. prescribed Maxalt. Son has not had a migraine since last spring, so he's never taken the medicine.

We were expecting a disqualification, however we have a couple of questions:

1) The DQ reads "headaches requiring prescription medication". Does the fact that he's never taken medication matter?
2) Given the frequency of the headaches, is a waiver likely?
3) If we work through the headache process, could he subsequently be disqualified based on the exercise induced asthma?
4) In general, what action should we take? I know we need to initiate the waiver process with USMMA, but do we sit back and wait for USMA?

This site has already proven to be very helpful. Having my son write the letters and getting the dr. letter was done based on info. gained here. Thanks so much for the service that is being provided.
 
Based on the information that you have provided here, if that same information was passed to DoDMERB, there is a possibility that no disqualifications will be issued.

If there are disqualifications for the headaches and the asthma, again, based on what you have written here, and if that information was passed to DoDMERB, there is a good chance of a waiver for both issues.
 
Thanks for the quick reply. He did receive the headache disqualification (as I re-read, I didn't think I was clear on that). DodMERB has received all the info I previously passed along.

Would all disqualifications be issued at one time? Or, is he out of the woods on the asthma disqualification?

Is there anything I/he should be doing right now? Or are we in a holding pattern?

OK, now that I'm clear, it make a little bit of a difference.

If there was to be an asthma disqualification it would have been issued at the same time as the headache disqualification, so you are good with that.

So for the moment you just need to sit back, relax and wait.
