Hello everyone! I'm a High School Senior from NY with Senatorial and Congressional nominations to USMA and USMMA. Additionally, I was an intern at the West Point Museum this past summer. While I'm not sure how much I can answer, feel free to ask me anything.

Hi. One question: Why is your nickety-name CoastieHistory?

I didn't mention it in the introduction but I am applying to the Coast Guard Academy as well, and the USCGA was actually why I made my account here (to get information on their summer program). I forgot to list what schools I am applying to, I only listed the nominations.

Which SA do you want to go to?
Honestly, that will be one of the toughest decisions of my life thus far. Because I live so close to West Point and worked there (and continue to volunteer as a docent), I made lots of friends and connections while seeing things some cadets might not even get to see. I had the opportunity to work with the History Department, USMA Band, and even at Quarters 100. I also caught the Army Football bug which led me to get tickets for the Army-Navy game this year (great experience). On the other hand, my visits to USMMA and USCGA were amazing, and while I do not have much of a personal connection to those academies, I know I will be just as happy majoring in Marine Transportation or MES.

Think beyond the major and the SA experience. You will spend four years getting your Bachelors, and possibly 20 plus in the military or maritime industry.

What do you see as your most desirable career?

I consider both careers to be equally amazing, hence why I said it will be a hard choice for me.

@AROTC-dad , If you have any idea, what is the most easygoing OCS/OTS (without all the DI's yelling at you), and by physical standards (NOT MCOCS, I believe)? Coast Guard OCS seems long (over 4 months of training), but is fun when compared to the Navy/MC ocs. You even get to play baseball, bowl and swim during training! As you know, my major, grades and everything is good, but the CG seems appealing with limited PT and easy PFT scores. The CG cares more about other stuff, I believe. If you have any knowledge about CG OCS/DCO, and could inform me, that would be great. Thanks.

With all due respect, if you are looking for the easiest path to become an officer then I would seriously question if you would do well as a leader in our military.
