Has there ever been an announcement of a SCOTUS Justice Nomination process like this? Let me know. When the President walked out to APPLAUSE I walked away.

Call me old fashioned.

This is sickening.

I'm done.

So, how many SCOTUS nominations have you actually witnessed?

This judge, regardless of political afillitation, has stated he will uphold the constitution...this is an oath that all military officers also take when they are commissioned as do all CADETS.
I was a military officer; were you?

And even the USAFA cadets taking their oath were met with ecstatic applause from the hundreds of witnesses (parents, family and friends) and televised, at least locally.

That's exactly the point. They're not supposed to be prime time spectacles.

Is it just the "prime time" slot that's bothering people?

I can remember similar announcements of Roberts and Alito, but do not remember the time of day for either of them.

Not sure I understand the comparison, Military officers do not have the power to shape, render legal opinions, or set precedent in Law for the United States, no matter their personal political leanings. It's beyond naive to think that political leanings (Conservative/Liberal) are not a large part of the nomination process for SCOTUS selections, if it weren't then the previous nominee would have been confirmed long ago.

.....And yes, I was.

I remember Obama nominees for SCOTUS being announced to a crowd too...

I'm not sure I see the issue here...

You're right, and I agree that in the whole scheme of things it's not that big of a deal considering the ratings cage match every news organization is in these days.

I think the the thing that rubs some the wrong way is the desire for spectacle. Other announcements have taken place during the day, usually in the Rose Garden, weather permitting, and not during Prime Time with the networks cutting into programming to cover the announcement. Brings back memories of the "Lebron James Team Selection Show". The President didn't usually announce he has made his choice a day or two before while telling the press "You'll have to wait for the announcement on Prime Time, you'll be very surprised". If the decision was made they don't have the two "Finalists show up together" and then end the announcement with "Well, were you all surprised....We're you?" I half expected him to hand the Judge a Rose.

You're old fashioned. Also google is your friend.

When President Obama announced Elana Kagan to the Supreme Court - the ceremony was held in the exact same room, with the attendees clapping.

Ten seconds to google this.

True, but not at Prime Time with the networks breaking into programming to cover it live, the only live coverage was on the cable stations and it was in the afternoon. There was no pre announcement and they didn't parade the two "Finalists" to DC the day of the announcement.

But you're right, it was in the same room and there was an audience and they were clapping, just not all the other fluff, we could all do with a little less fluff.

So it's the time of the announcement that seems to bother you ??

Just a simple observation - on the west coast, this announcement came at 5pm, hardly "prime time"

I know you easterners believe your time zone is the center of the universe ... but come on. ;)

Besides, it wasn't like he was interrupting the Super Bowl.

I live in Seattle and the time doesn't bother me, just everything else I mentioned previously.
