Hi, I'm current HS Junior, looking to apply to the USMMA. I've been on ADHD meds (Concerta) since I was diagnosed about 2 years ago, but no IEP. I'm trying to determine what the current rules are for waivers to the USMMA and when I'd have to stop taking the meds if I'm eligible for a waiver. Most of the ADHD posts seem to be from a couple years ago, and don't address if there's any difference between USMMA vs DOD or a DOD Service Academy (which I'm assuming are less likely to give a waiver). Appreciate any help

No doubt our resident authority, Mr. Mullen, Deputy Director, DoDMERB, will appear to respond.

In the meantime, go to p. 46 of the June 2022 accession standard below.

DoDMERB will find you either meet or don’t meet the standard. The individual service academy/waiver authority will determine any waivers per their individual policy. The important thing is to show you can do the academic work, take standardized tests, perform well, without assistance for some period of time prior to entering military service.

At USMMA, you will also get a USNR commission, so Navy plays a role. (Unless you commission AD in another service if not staying USNR.)

The most important thing is your health. People in your situation can and do get waivers, but many do not. Be resilient and give it your best shot if this is the path you want to pursue. Always develop alternate plans.

I was TDY (Temporary duty in West Virginia)all weekend, hence no response.

NEVER, stop taking medications unless directed to do so by the physician who prescribed those.

This is the DoD standard that DoDMERB Applies for Service Academies:
"5.28. LEARNING, PSYCHIATRIC, AND BEHAVIORAL DISORDERS.
a. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, if with:
(1) A recommended or prescribed Individualized Education Program, 504 Plan, or work
accommodations after the 14th birthday;
(2) A history of comorbid mental disorders;
(3) Prescribed medication in the previous 24 months; or
(4) Documentation of adverse academic, occupational, or work performance."

Google "DoDMERB;" Hit "questions on the process;" If you meet the criteria in paragraphs 11-12, then 15-21 will apply. :wiggle:
