Help with NYC

Maplerock - hope you are having amazing time in NYC. Can't wait to hear what you ended up doing.

What is the name of the resturant with the singing waitstaff? They pass the tip jar for a special offering that will go to another acting, singing or dance lesson for a staff member. The food is decent and the portions huge but it is very entertaining.

MULAN50... you are so nice!

I am blown away by the kindness on this board. We travel on March 23, and will be staying at the Hotel Vetiver (Long Island City.) They tell me it's one block to the subway, and less than 20 to downtown Manhattan.

On our 3rd day, DS has a tour of the USMMA, and I'll just do some more sightseeing. I like the many choices available afterward... Hopefully he will come away impressed with King's Point. After that it's off to USCGA and West Point for a quick look.

As for NYC plans, we hope to check in at hotel, park, and subway into NYC day one. Might take a night tour.

The second day we will go to town early and try to take it all in. I thought about trying t take him to a TV or game show, but not sure how easy that would be.

Broadway show would be fun. Suggestions without breaking the bank? I thought about the Tom Hanks play... but good tickets are $180 plus $41 to purchase each ticket on-line REALLY!!!???

As for restaurants, we'd like the best pizza we could find, maybe a great hot dog place, Italian, etc.

Looking forward to it all.

Most Broadway shows are closed on Mondays. Tickets are quite expensive but there is a TKTS booth in Times Square at around 47th Street where you can get same day tickets at 25%-50% discounts.

You are near the N train, which goes to Times Square (the southern end) but you may be pressed for time if you want to try for a show tonight. Here is a link to a subway map.

There is a giant sort of Italian food mall called Eataly at 200 Fifth Avenue which has multiple restaurants and retail stores. I confess to never having been there but I've heard good things. The N train by the way goes very close to there.

I don't know about tickets to TV shows but my memory suggests that you have to request tickets well in advance.

This is being written at great personal sacrifice since I was supposed to get off my butt and go to the gym.

PS : dont miss Times Square at night
