We have family who would like to joim us and attend Plebe Parents' Weekend, but are not be able to make it for entire time. We are wondering if anyone can help with what the typical daily events are (assuming it is relatively the same from year to year) so they can book hotel ASAP based on the important/most significant events they wish to be a part of.

Thank you!

There is another thread on this site...PPW Questions....that has a lot of the information that you're asking about including past years schedules. Check it out and trust you'll find what you're looking for.

AND.... need to spell check!

If you haven't read the other recent thread about PPW, that will help you understand the general flow.

In general, it's all about plebes being able to get off the Yard, spend quiet time in hotel or rental with family, nap, eat favorite take-out, catch up on social media or a Netflix movie. If they are out in town, they have to be in uniform. After being in regulation gear non-stop since I-Day, they crave a break. Most are not interested in tour guide duty on the Yard or in Annapolis, or any non-mandatory events.
I am sure other parents will help out with thoughts on official events.

Thank you so much for your insight.... I read all these replies and DH and I often look at each other and have an 'Ah ha...' moment and another light bulb goes on. Learning so much

Bring the laptop or iPad so they can re-connect with their old world and feel like themselves again, with people calling them by first names or family nicknames. You know them best - what experience and company give them the best mental and physical refreshment?

A bit off topic, but what do the Plebe's do between PPW and the start of the Fall Term which is Monday, August 21? They will have seven days in between.

They wrap up PS training, get more books/stuff issued, get ready to move into academic year company area, complete a million and one admin tasks, could already have gotten reading lists and assignments from fall courses... the blissful idyll of PS is about to evaporate as 3000 or so upperclass descend on them...and the grind of 8 semesters begins.

Plebe summer does not officially end until the night of August 17th (Hello Night ), so they will be doing much of the same things they were doing before PPW, after PPW, until that date. There is still PEP, they are still tightly regimented, they are still getting trained. Besides the basic stuff, they will move from their plebe summer rooms into their Ac year rooms, and do other administrative things to prepare for the coming year, but still under the watchful eye of Plebe Summer Detail. After the 17th, they will be "free" in the sense that they are allowed to walk around with out a babysitter, but there will be a million briefs/errands that they will have to be responsible for, so it won't really be much of a stress relief. On the night before school starts USNA brings in a whole bunch of food vendors out on Farragut, usually with some music and sometimes bounce houses and stuff like that. It's called "First Night", and its for the whole Brigade, not any specific class.

I remember when I was a plebe, I had assumed things would wrap up after PPW, and I was quite disappointed when I learned that there would be almost a week more of training.

Proceed with caution when planning a "big" family weekend with extended family for PPW. My now 2/c really wanted to rest and not be in his uniform. We took a half day trip to DC and he was happy to be "away from it all". The plebes are exhausted both mentally and physically and if they have to be in uniform entertaining extended family it could be too much. My mids favorite activity of PPW was sitting in his boxers and t shirt in the hotel room with his siblings watching movies and eating delivery pizza!

Cannot agree with this enough. We spent the majority of PPW in our hotel room with DS and Mid-sib basking in the air conditioning, eating junk food and playing video games (we brought our PS3 with us). Glad we didn't bring extended family. He needed quiet and that's what he got (and, of course, a few pairs of sunglasses and a watch ... like every other Plebe!).

Does this mean we should cancel our reservations with DD to Disneyland? ;)

Nicely noticed. Must have been a typo. Still a DS, no medical procedures.
Just checking... I thought so, though Navy has issued very specific rules and procedures if individuals have the desire to make the change.

Would you happen to know the OPNAVINST number for that?
It's a SECNAVINST, somewhere in this news article:

:)
Well hell, should have know something like that would come from a higher source. I'm not there, nor is boy. I guess now days to each their own. Perhaps my opinion needs to go off line. Sorry for even bringing this tentacle into the discussion! Oh, tentacle, squid, ocean, deep water...... You're the best ktnatalk. BTW, Happy Birthday to your service!
