Helpful data for this summer's LDAC grads

Hi there,

I just came across this forum after countless searching on Google to see if anyone have any insight on what's the OMS cutoff points for Active Duty going to be. For those Cadets going through Accession this Fall. I went to LDAC this summer and did good, received an overall S. I met with my PMS 2 weeks ago and he said I had 77.6 points but that was not everything. He still need to do his last evaluation and ranking. Plus the points I get for working part-time and being an SMP cadet. I know the cutoff for 2012 was 72 points. I was also told that even if you have more points than the cutoff that you not guarantee to get Active Duty. Can you please fill me in on what you think the cutoff will be this year. Also do everyone that are above the cutoff get Active Duty or not? Thanks

I thinkI posted earlier in the thread regarding the AD Cutoff.

Again, the cut off has nothing to do with a number, they don't pick a certain number and then everyone above that number gets AD. They decide on a total number of cadets that they need for AD, if that number is 3000 then they take the top 3000 names on the OML. Whatever the OMS score of #3000 on that list is the cutoff number for that year. If the year has a very high speed class that number could be 80, if the class does not have as high an average the cutoff number could be 69. It all depends on what number the last person given AD has.

If you are within the number of cadets that are listed for AD i'm not sure what, other then a strong recommendation from the PMS that you not be given AD, would keep you from AD. Only your cadre will be able to explain that one.

Interesting tidbit DS told us about this weekend...may be a little OT, but it does have to do with AROTC SMPs/Ohio National Guard members. Apparently, in Mar or Apr 2012 the Ohio Guard changed its policy for SMP cadets who accept Ohio Guard's tuition payments. Previously, whether or not you went AD or Guard/Reserve you were NOT obligated to repay these tuition payments(in-state tuition at any Ohio public school). IF a cadet who swore into the Guard after the Mar/Apr 2012 cutoff now goes AD he/she is obligated to repay all tuition money paid by the Ohio National Guard. In other words, pretty much all Ohio Guard tuition payments to SMP's become a guarantee of guard/reserve duty.

Has anyone else from other states seen changes such as this? By financially discouraging Ohio SMPs from seeking AD service this could in a small way impact OML/OMS. DS's university takes a lot of SMP cadets and most do qualify for AD cutoffs historically. This policy will not impact our DS(swore in June 2011) but just thought it an interesting change in policy...

Well that is certainly going to change the recruiting for SMP, at least in Ohio.

I dont think you should worry about it. It is senior year and you must focus on what you can control. Make sure you grad requiements are fulfilled. That means not just passing but doing well in your classes. At Norwich my DS needed to make sure he received high grades in his Major to graduate. Now is the time to make sure that is completely covered. If you dont graduate on time all of the above is meaningless.
Assist your batallion anyway you can. Help them out where they can rely on you. Firm up the relationships with the Cadre. You do not need to be drinking buddies with them. You can have friendships with them in a professional manner based on trust. Listen to them and ask questions. Regardless of what happens in October put yourself in a position where when an opportunity or change comes up the Cadre will recommend you. Many, many times something will happen to someone slotted above you. A new opportunity may come up for you. You cannot effect anything that you have done already but take advantage of any impressions you can still make with senior year.

Just wondering if any one can answer, do you know if those slotted for reserves can later get active duty? Maybe a person can place first his group at BOLC or pass a foreign language course. Just wondering if anyone knows.

We're eager to see the OML list the end of this month. My son graduates in Dec. Since he attended LDAC in summer of 2011. he has already seen his accession score...95.
sorry, but what is an "accession score". Is that his OMS? If so, that might put him in top 10%, where he will get his choice of Branch.

The Accession Score is the OMS score. 95 is pretty darn good, I thing the cutoff for the top 10% was about 94 +- last year. Even if the cutoff for the top 10% is above 95 this year he should get his top choice with no problem.

Thank you for your input/replies. He should be able to branch infantry w/o branch detail, which is his #1 choice. His rotc cadre has encouraged him to apply for the 173rd in Italy.

Congratulations to your son.

Good luck to him in getting the 173rd, what a great first assignment that would be.

Let us know how it all works out.

Anxiously waiting for the OML to come out but I have faith in God that the outcome will be a positive one. Do anyone have any insight on the cutoff for AD this year? Come on October get here already!!

It all depends on how many Active Duty slots they have for this year. They don't assign a cutoff number, they select a given number for Active Duty. The OMS score of the last cadet on that list is what the cutoff number will be.

You stated in your last post that your point total was 77.6, but that it did not include everything. Do you have an updated and final OMS score yet.

I am not sure how many points I have right now and I don't feel like bugging my PMS. i have heard something totally different from what you said about the AD OMS cutoff is the last cadet. From what I am hearing Cadet Command decide on a cutoff OMS points for AD.

Where have you heard that information about the cutoff number.

Consider the past few years. During one year CC had listed a total number of cadets that would be getting AD, after a review they added more cadets to the list. In doing that the last OMS number dropped in points due to the fact they had added more cadets to AD. They did not just lower the OMS number, they added cadets that in turn lowered the OMS number. The Army has a Mission Set each year, they select the number for Active Duty based on the need, how many WP grads, SMC grads, OCS, and ROTC grads. I don't believe they just pull a number out of a hat.

I'm really suprised the Cadre at your battalion has not told you your final OMS score, every battalion is different I guess.

Mine hasn't officially told me either. I got the info off here and had my HRA print off my LAMS report in CCIMS.

Do you guys know the official dates for the OML, AD, Branch, etc...?

Take any official date you get with a large grain of salt. Last year the dates for each of these changed and were pushed back a few times. Try not to depend on any date your given, you'll just stress yourself out.
