Hi everyone, I'm a current HS senior and need advice and tips to apply and hopefully get into West Point.
I Know I'm coming in late, but I've heard that I could always transfer after 1 year of college locally. I made my account somewhat recently in early February and am really working hard to hopefully get into USMA or USMAPS next year.
I've Included some stats so people can get a better feel of who I am! as always, I can share more just need to get some eyes on this post first!

Graduating Class of 2023
No class rank at our school
GPA (3.4) This is the biggest worry of my application... I come from a single parent household and covid hit Us, Me and my school Particularly hard. But I'm devoted to getting strong grades the first one or two years in college to show them I can.
SAT (1410) Hoping to improve if take it again.
ACT (Taking this April)
(APs) Took 10 tested on 8s all 4 or above.

Sports
(Varsity Ice Hockey) 3 years captain for 2 all state awards for 2 years.
(Club Hockey) when not in HS season played in a developmental league for the state. 2 years
Soccer but not HS

Extra circulars
There's many...

Student Government Vice President
Choir
Theater- 6 years, lead roles
Model UN officer
Michael Sadler Foundation Ambassador
Hockey Youth Foundation
Student Coach and Officiate with USA Hockey
Debate/Mock Trial
Peer to Peer (Special Needs Program/Leadership)

If you need any other details, I can give them. I'm Extremely sorry this is such a long post, I'm a senior in a tough spot with a dream, and goal...
Look Forward to hearing some responses!
Thanks

The best general advice is to take as many classes similar to a first year Cadet's schedule. (Calc, Chem, English Comp, etc.) and excel at them. Make sure you meet the deadlines for ALL possible nomination applications. Start now on the physical fitness.

FYI. There are no transfers. Everyone starts as a Plebe (Freshman), regardless of prior college work, even 2/3/4 years. of college.

As stated above, take a course load that resembles Plebe year courses - English composition, STEM math, physics, chemistry.

I would think that despite lower GPA, you're a strong candidate. Maybe improving an already higher SAT even more, would help offset that GPA even more. Test scores will be maybe more important for you?
Community Service Hours: Find a food bank, or something similar to volunteer with, and have them log your hours. Volunteering as a youth student coach sounds good, but straight up service work Volunteering outside of an established interest (Hockey), might help you stand out.
Get coaching on interviewing. You're gonna do a bunch, to include some phone conversations that aren't technically interviews, but believe me, they're listening to how you communicate.
Speaking of communication: Make steady frequent outreach to admissions people, once you've opened youre candidate file. A call for bigger milestones. An email for updates. My son would email his admissions officers about his newest SAT scores, (even though they get reported anyways). A good idea to take a carefully worded respectful approach, but keep your name in front of them. They need to be convinced that you WANT to go to their Academy, you're COMMITTED to military life, and you will NOT quit.
Above holds true with congressmans Service Academy Committee communications.
Open your file, and get going on it 1st day it's possible. Prep important people you might use for letters of reference for Academy applications and congressional applications.
Keep asking for advice like this! I've found many very helpful people to guide our way through this sometimes mysterious process. (At least for me😆).

Are you good enough to be recruited by a SA d1 hockey coach? If so your 3.4 gpa should not be a major issue. And if so why just one SA?

If you are not a d1 type of recruit my guess is that a year of really good college grades in a year of college STEM classes will be what you will realistically need.

I think that your high school GPA won't be such a looming factor once you can demonstrate in college that you can take a plebe like schedule and nail it. Establish relationships with your instructors. Seek out extra instruction during any time offered.

Find a leadership position, either with a club or a sport, or as @justdoit19 suggest, the college's ROTC unit. If you join the ROTC, establish good relationships within the Cadre and excel.

Nail your CFA. Train hard, stay fit.

To be honest, once you are no longer in high school, test scores aren't necessarily as important as a stellar GPA in college taking Plebe type courses. That really demonstrates you can handle the rigor of the course work while multi tasking life, work, staying fit, leadership, extracurriculars etc.

Yes, I have options for juniors for hockey and potential for D1/D3 offers - but don't quite know what you mean by SA haven't heard that term before
