Hey, tacticalnuke! great idea for a forum! I'm really interested in going to either the US Military Accademy at West Point, or the Naval Accademy. I'm going up to West Point on June 23 for mock R day. Should be fun

I'll be a junior next year. Class of 08. I've wanted to go to these schools since i was a little kid, but thought that they only accepted some kind of superhuman. In middle school, I read "Absolutely American" by David Lipsky and I've been striving towards that goal since then. Hopefully I'll be able to do both summer seminars next year, and it'll give me a clearer decision on where to head.

Thanx for the welcome, TN

Son, I am living proof that they DON'T only accept superhumans. Trust me.

All you need is brains, guts, and the attitude that the only way you'll leave the place is either as a graduate or as a corpse. ;)

Good luck, and keep us posted! We hope this place will be chock full of good info before too long. :)

Awesome, i'll be on this forum all day... everyday... thanx for the encouragement, Zaphod

what do you want to do?

Each academy has its strengths and weaknesses.
Obviously, if you want to be a Marine or a Sailer, navy. Probably the best mechanized engineering school of the academies.
USAFA has Electrical and Aerospace down the best (so I have been told)
USMA is the better civil. For a non-engineering degree, USMA has the strongest core classes of humanities.
Leading troops down range, USMA (unless you go Marines)
Also, USMA is the biggest suck (though they are all getovers now )
If you want to fly, USAFA. Though, of course, USNA has their pilots and I don' t think remote control planes land on carriers, yet. So Navy may keep their pilots a lot longer. Aviation in the army for officers sucks.
And, it goes without saying, that if you like being sodomized, Navy has had that tradition for years.
If you aren't sure about the military, then go Air Force. Its like a half-way house.

Help us, help you

:bang: HEY! Tsk Tsk! Don't forget USMMA! The wicked step-child of all academies but offering more choices than any of them. Of course ya gotta pay with that 11 month a year class time.... If ya want to drive the "big boat" USMMA is THE place.

Boys boys... no need to get nasty.

We all know the USNA has the better football team, and what better to judge a school by. After all, our country is football obsessed.

Oh snap!

Air Force is like the Red Sox. They only win when the real teams let them.

Isn't it the other way around, isn't the Navy like the red sox. Didn't they just get lucky this time?

Nobody believes me but if someone wants to fly in the military the absolute best chance of getting a slot is by going to Kings Point/USMMA. I don't have exact numbers, but I would be the matching rate for qualified candidates over the past 10 years is darn near 100%.
