Okay, I'll show you what I know for my son. His medical status for all 3 academies was "Qualified" as of July 15, and his WP and AF status have not changed since that date (even though he got an AF LOA and 2 noms in the meantime). His current Navy status shows as:
Agency: ' US Naval Academy
Admission Status: Offer Extended
Admission Status Change Date: 14-DEC-2009
Current Medical Status: Qualified (as of 15-JUL-09 )
So, yes, his medical status date hasn't changed, but his Admission Status date has. Interesting that yours still shows the LOA. Before the change this week (and as of Monday it changed just the Admission Status Change Date, then yesterday to "Offer Extended"), his showed:
Agency: ' US Naval Academy SubAgency: NALOA
Admission Status Change Date: 8-SEP-2009
Current Medical Status: Qualified (as of 15-JUL-09 )
That new line with Admission Status was just added in this week and for USMA and AF it shows as "In Process" which it didn't used to.
I wish I could tell you what it all meant. I did speak with another mom whose son has an LOA to Navy, but no nom yet (that he knows of) and his also changed this week to Offer Extended. I was hoping that meant the appointment was on the way!
Orwell - thanks for your insights! Sounds like you and my son went through much of the same analysis of the two branches, but his decision leans more the other way. Interestingly, he though on the whole the Navy had cooler planes though!
But I think he concluded more that there were a lot more jobs in the AF he could be happy doing if he didn't fly, and although there were nearly as many in the Navy, there were also several that he adamantly did NOT want to do in the Navy. He didn't see those in the AF. Plus the whole "being on a ship 6 of 18 months" was a big factor in the decision I think as well. Sounds like you both are taking the decision seriously, and have only helped yourselves by learning as much as you can before finally choosing. Incidentally, his school gets out mid June too, and he missed the two weeks of regular classes and finals in order to go to the three SS's. But I'm glad he did - says so far those were the three best weeks of his life!
