Hi everyone!

Any suggestions out there for how/what should be presented, regarding going to KP, at our son's high school baccalaureate night? The high school has never had a service academy candidate and the person lined up to do it (a KP1990 grad), has never done one. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

USMMA should have materials for it, and should be able to describe what needs to happen with the 1990 grad.

Awards ceremony

Our school has a special awards night. I emailed Lt. Flahive and within minutes she emailed me a script where our son's name could be inserted. We will be using the certificate we received from USMMA.

Shirley Anthoney passed us on to admissions. Is Lt Flahive in admissions?

Yes Lt Flahive is in admissions and she is great! I think she is responsible for the Northeast.

Thanks! Just talked with Terry Doby in admissions and she is sending it to me now.

Terri is an admin person in admissions that has helped us with so many things throughout this entire process that I have lost count. Always with a happy voice and with a natural positive attitude. Over the past 18 months I have personally called about three times. After the first conversation, she remembered my son's name and many things about our last conversation.

She just told me she was leaving to pursue another opportunity in June. If any of you out there have talked with her, you probably know what I am talking about when I say, this will be a loss for the admissions office. Call her and wish her well. It will make her day.

ParkerMom~I sent an email to your son's email address with the script and Lt. Flahive's email address.

WOW

I had to resurrect this thread to tell you about the presentation at son's graduation Friday. The AF Lt. Col. who served as our congressional representative's military liaison (and father of a USMMA 2011) came to graduation to make the presentation. After the guidance counselors presented a number of awards to the graduates, the District Superintendent gave a very nice introduction to the colonel, who spoke briefly about the school and the monetary value of the four-year education (collective gasps from the audience:biggrin:) and presented a Congressional certificate to son. It merited a mention in the local paper and he had lots of people come up to him in church this morning to congratulate him - some people I didn't even know. All in all, I was a wonderful event and I'm so greatful to Dave for making the trip - especially since he shipped out for Afghanistan the next day. Deb, I'm not sure whether you read these boards, but Doug and I thank you both for giving Dan this honor.

WOW

How wonderful of him to do that. At our sons graduation the first selectman(mayor) announced that DS had been appointed to the academy and would become a member of the Navy Reserve. He asked him to stand along with us. He then called the names of the others who had enlisted. It was wonderful to have the public acknowlegement of his service.

I'm sorry I didn't find this thread earlier. Our son's recognition was nil compared to his 2 classmates who were accepted to West Point and the AF Academy. He didn't really care but it definitely made the USMMA look minor league. No one gave us guidance. The school counselor asked us about it and said we were supposed to find someone... the day before the recognition ceremonies. I wish I had known all this earlier as I was totally unaware that we were supposed to arrange it. Live and learn!
