High School Transcript - Application Status - Delay

Has anyone else had an issue with the USNA Office of Admissions taking what seems like a very long time to update the application status page to reflect a received high school transcript? My son sent a question on this to his "Admissions Counselor" - no response. Wondering if we should try to escalate?

DS had this problem way back in July/August. It took 4-5 weeks for the transcript to show up in the portal.

When was it submitted ? This is crunch time in Admissions.... a lot of people finalizing their packages and submitting information. In addition, I would expect a lot of military staff to be on leave, and the civilian workers may be on furlough. Be patient...

HOW was it submitted? USNA requires transcript submissions directly from the school, and not through a second party (like Parchment, for example).

From USNA.edu:
"In addition to completing your Candidate Academic Information, your high school counselor should mail an official transcript to USNA. Transcripts should include your candidate number and be mailed to the following address:
Office of Admissions 52 King George Street Annapolis, MD 21402."

Getting the High School to put that candidate number on there is pretty huge, as well.

DS submitted his early September. By late November they still had not yet processed, so per multiple convos he had w his Admissions Counselor, he went ahead and resent them. Overnight Mail. Those finally processed right before Christmas Break. Definitely a back log. Follow up and be patient is about the best advice. Oh and DS just told me too, make sure your Candidate # is on there.

Initially submitted in September. After some nagging we found out that wasn't accepted becasue it wasn't directly from the school. Sent again on December 10 directly from high school counselor. Unfortunately, I don't believe the candidate number was on that one.

Given the holiday, I guess December 10 wasn't that long ago. Still - we don't like the feeling of not even knowing if they have received it.

There you go. Read every single word of the application process on the USNA.edu web site, and do it exactly as they spell out.

The candidate number is all-important to identifying a candidate. The reason they give out candidate numbers is to differentiate applicants (name only) from candidates (applicants who have already met the criteria for being a bonafide candidate). They care only about candidates, at this point.

On I-Day, they will switch from being a candidate to a Plebe, and receive an Alpha Code. From then on, that Alpha Code will become the new all-important number. After the academic year starts, that Alpha Code is used in their usna.edu EMail address, and will be used to identify all sorts of things.

Numbers are paramount to keeping track of all Government assets, which your DS is trying to become. ;)

I certainly agree with the attention to detail part. That said - my son just heard back from the the admission office and with respect to the question about the missing candidate number they said -

"Everything will be fine. We will put it on when we get it."

That is indeed, the rub.

If it doesn't have a number, an extra step (involving a human putting that number on it) is required.
Whenever humans are involved, things can (and do) get missed, forgotten, or entered incorrectly.
The result is (at best) a delay.
