Last spring, I received an appointment to the USCGA but was unfortunately denied a medical waiver. I appealed it but was denied again. I hope to apply for OCS after university but now worry that I may never medically qualify. I was disqualified due to a history of malignancy, treatment for which only lasted 4 months and was a complete success. I was told when I was initially applying, my cancer treatment would not ultimately deny me entrance into the Academy but it has. I was also recently told that in a few years the regulations may change, though it was admitted that they do not change often. I was wondering if anyone knows whether I should continue trying to achieve my dream to be a USCG officer or if my history of malignancy, no matter the type, treatment, recovery, or years between applying and it, will always disqualify me from being an officer in any military branch.
