Hold Candidate ??

How are you able to check the location of the ship? Not that I'm asking because my DS will be in that situation at this time next year. LOL.

I also pay a very reasonable month-to-month fee to track via satellite, one ship, through Marine Traffic. You can start and stop which ship you're following and start and stop your subscription. Gives peace of mind for long ocean voyages :thumb:

My DS was put on "hold"Nov 2017 until the end of May 2018. He was offered NMMI and gladly took the offer. The day after he was offered prep school from Coast Guard as well. He will playing football for USMMA class of 2023. He is killing it out at NMMI...3.87 GPA and thriving......The best thing we could have done... "Hold" was hard . Don't let anyone tell you it isn't. It is like being stuck in limbo for a really long time. My advice would be keep all your back ups in play. BUT don't give up.

Exactly what my son did---and scheduled to graduate from KP 2020! We are so grateful for NMMI--it truly prepared him for the rigor of KP and playing football. Let me know if you have any questions!

Personally I prefer vesselfinder. I use it professionally almost daily.
I use both Marine Traffic and Vessel Finder. . . I don't use them quite every day, though. Nor do I have any family sailing. I wonder how my folks coped. . . . I didn't speak to them much. . . especially while at sea. The occasional middle of the night international call. . . but those were expensive, even from the Seamen's Clubs. I would send a few letters, but some of those didn't get to them until I was back stateside.

I'll have to check into that one. Thanks, @KPEngineer
Our DS (2021) returned from his first sea year last month. He boarded his ship in Anchorage, circumnavigated the globe, and finished up in Texas. We tracked him the whole way using Marine Traffic, and it worked perfectly. Could even set up alerts when he arrived in port, and his noon position.
Helped a little for those long periods in between phone calls.. : )

"Why didn't you call? You were in port for three days".

"Uhh, I was?"

Thank you ! I might have few come the end of June. I will touch base later about football. He just got his work out sent to Chief Scott so he gets out of PT when he goes back for Spring Semester.
