Hold Candidate?

I just checked my email (one minute ago at time of post), and the USMMA admissions team sent me an email regarding my status as an applicant to the class of 2027. My status has changed from "under review" to "hold candidate." Does anyone know what this means? I can't find much on what it means; it seems along the lines of the USMA "Letter or Encouragement" but more serious? I really am not sure what to think of it. I assume it is a good thing, but being waitlisted for most schools isn't a good sign: thoughts?

Thanks

From what I've seen, it's a good thing. How long was your application under review for though? I believe mine has been like 2-3 weeks now.

It's been under review for as long as my application has been open I feel like. I kind of assumed it was under review from the get-go until they make a decision, and I don't remember when it wasn't. I started mine as soon as it opened and finished more of it before August.

My son was under review for several weeks and has been on hold since late Oct. We figure he's waiting on the nomination at this point. He could really use some good news though. He had a friend pass away the week before Thanksgiving and the next day totally bombed a calculus test. He's pretty down on himself :(

Hold means that you meet all the requirements. Now they just really have to rack and stack you against the others in your state to determine who gets an offer of admission.

Hold is a good thing. The Admissions team has determined that you are a qualified and competitive candidate. Congratulations! It is not a guarantee of an offer, but you are one step closer. You can stay on hold for days to months. Hang in.

Oh, I'm so sorry. That would be a tough loss and would shake anyone. Fingers crossed for some good news and peace for him.

Yes, as others have said my DS went into “Hold” status until he won slate for state as “principal” (they select by state and have designated number of “state” winners.) Once Principal “state” winners have been selected than they move on to “waitlist” pool of national candidates and select those that they feel are best for appointments (using whatever criteria they use.) Being in “Hold” status is a good thing and signifies that you are right where you should be. Once nominations are resolved they will begin to offer appointments. Good Luck!
