Like every other kid, I want to fly. For some reason I can't seem to find norwichs selection percentage for rated slots which concerns me. But I'm curious if anybody had a first hand review of Norwich in terms of academics, social life, quality , etc.... as I'm CPR in two academies it's beginning to look like an option, I know my self well enough to know that I like a disciplined environment and it's between Norwich electrical and computer engineering or UC boulder aeronautical engineering so I was wondering if anybody had any strong opinions about either of these programs.

My son attends Norwich.
His class (2020) only had 4 AF Cadets on AFROTC scholarship at the start of the year.
I think if you contact the detachment they could give you any of the selection information you require.
Any SMC will be very different than UC Boulder.
At Norwich you would be taught by a Professor with a terminal degree, rather than a grad student.
The engineering department is very good. On the computer side Norwich has a renowned computer security assurance program.
That could make for some valuable electives, although the engineering curriculum provides limited elective opportunities
Norwich is much smaller than UC, and your circle as a Rook would be very small.
Even after recognition Northfield is not Boulder.
The two schools you name are at opposite ends of the spectrum in many ways.
If you have not visited Norwich I would recommend it.
if you have specific questions feel free to PM me.

Thank you very much for the insight! I am going to visit soon. I understand they are on different ends, I was just curious how people like either institution safe to say you and your DS enjoy it? Thanks again

I visited Norwich and it was a great school with a great campus. Only downside, to me, is that Northfield is a very, very small town and there isn't too too much to do around there. The scenery is beautiful, since it's mainly all forest, but if you want more of a city/more urban area, NU probably isn't the choice

I agree Northfield is a very small town and there is not much to do, except focus on your studies and achieve an excellent GPA.
GPA is something like 40% of the OML score.
I don't think "enjoy" is the word my son would use. When he was deep in Rookdom I think the words he used were "hate" and suck", usually with an "-ing" word in front . SMCs are not for everyone including a percentage of those who choose them.
Now after recognition has settled in and is focused on his goal of commissioning as an Army Officer. He knows he needs a degree to do that. And that is why is he chose an SMC, because he wanted be surrounded by those who share his sense of purpose.
He has an excellent GPA, APFT score. Recently completed testing to become a member of the Mountain & Cold Weather Company (more OML points).
He had always intended to try to branch infantry but now is thinking armor on account of he is pretty sure tanks have heaters.
Many posters on the forum will tell you no one will care where you went to school. Very true to a point. Your fellow alumni will care. SMC alumni seem to look out for each other more than other schools. Of course they can only hold the door for you. You have to walk through it.

Thanks for taking the time to write this AJC. My daughter is on the fence about Norwich after our visit there Monday. Its definitely a lot for young adults to take in when it comes to thinking about their next four years of college and the service to their country beyond that. Definitely not the typical "college experience" the majority of todays youth is looking for. Having been prior enlisted military and now DOD Army I was pretty impressed with the whole military/academic environment.

My son is a junior with a NROTC MO scholarship. He is 2nd in his Marine class. He loves it at Norwich. We come from a very rural area in NH so the town aspect of it doesn't bother him. My senior in high school is deciding between Norwich and enlisting. I hope he picks Norwich.
