Just took the CFa today and got horrendous scores.

Basketball: 48'
Pull Ups: 9
Shuttle Run: 8.5
Sit-Ups: 61
Push-Ups: 55
Mile: 7:45

Anyone else think I'm out of the running?

Your scores are not horrendous. None of the SAs post the minimum scores. Some of the AF candidates seem to know what are good scores....they will be along soon, I am sure. Are you male or female?

Here are the mean (average) scores for the CFA

Basketball: 69
Pull Ups:11
Shuttle Run: 8.8
Sit-Ups:80
Push-Ups:60
Mile: 6:40

You compare and decide. You can repeat the CFA, if you wish. You are the best one to decide if you think you can do better. It could be to your benefit.

They are low, but not horrendous. I've worked with folks with worse scores that have appointments. Based on about 40 self-reported scores, here is where you stand.

BBall - Bottom 17% or so
Pullups - avg
Shuttle - better than avg
Situps - bottom 25% or so
Pushups - a little below avg
Mile - bottom 20% or so

They are low, not horrendous. Based on about 40 self-reported scores, here is where these fall:

Bball - bottom 17%
Pullups - avg
Shuttle - above avg
Situps - bottom 25%
Pushups - avg
Mile - botoom 20%

Do not despair. I've worked with other candidates this year with worse scores who have been offered appointments.

you'll probably have to take the CFA again. but don't fret. there is always room for improvement. there is some other threads on here that show how some other people prepared for the CFA. check them out. good luck! :thumb:

The only reason would be for the basketball throw if he did.

Put it this way. I'm a successful Cadet at USAFA and you'r scores are VERY similar to what mine were. You'll be fine.

If they do request you to take it again, you dont have much time left. So keep training just in case they tell you to :D

Thanks for the encouragement. Better crack out the perfect push ups again.:thumb:

There is nothing in your scores that would automatically disqualify you, though certainly, there is plenty of room for improvement here. Did you practice for the CFA? If not, might I suggest you do and start today. My sons had never done a shuttle run and there is a technique which they learned and took two full seconds off their score. You obviously don't need it especially on your shuttle run but could probably use a coach to improve your technique on the ball throw. The mile run and sit ups, suck it up and PUSH for success! Practice practice practice, push push push. Take it again and push for it as if your future depended on your success!

That being said, I assumed you were male. Somewhat different story for you if you are female.

Good luck!

While not good, those scores won't necessarily kill you. Remember, admissions looks at the Whole Candidate Score. So, if you have good grades/tests and good ECs, you would still have a good chance. That being said, if they let you retake, you should try for a lot of improvement.

Also, should you get an appointment, you NEED to work out more. I made the mistake of arriving in substandard physical shape. It took me over a year and a half to fix that, and athletic probation is not a fun thing.

Wondering the same thing. I presume it is a lot of strength work. I almost wish I could get on academic probation to whip me into shape before June.

Athletic probation wastes a LOT of cadet time if you're on it. Raimius will attest to his experience.

Hornetguy - "I'm a successful Cadet at USAFA..."

Boy is that an understatement!!! LOL :thumb:

Cadets go on athletic probation primarily by having a PE average of under a 2.0 (C). Usually, that occurs by failing to get a C (250pts) on the PFT. The PFT makes up 50% of the PE average.

When on Ath pro, cadets must go to mandatory workouts three days a week, keep records of their off-duty workouts, and are restricted to base. Each recondo workout lasts from about 1645 to 1815...they suck. They are intense workouts, but since they are designed to correct most any deficiency, they don't always focus on areas where any particular cadet needs to improve. In my case, abs workouts were mostly a pointless way to get tired, since I always max the sit-ups on the PFT. Recondo does help cadets improve their performance, but it is not very efficient and sucks up a LOT of your "free" time. Also, being restricted to base makes weekends a lot less fun.

Passing the PFT wasn't the main issue. Getting my average above passing was the problem. The only semester I had below a 2.0 was my 1st, but it took until mid-way through my 4th semester to get my average above a 2.0.
