Hot Takes/Unpopular Opinions?

I would say the scales come down pretty well on the good side. I'll say those pilots have a pretty good challenge coin.

Universal service would probably be good for the nation, but horrible for the military. As a unifying civics program, yes! As efficient for developing a modern fighting force, not as much.
We need the numbers

We are not getting the numbers

We try harder, we lower standards, we pay more, we still don’t get the numbers

In time we may need a lot lot more numbers than we need now,

A draft is needed a draft will never happen.

Vietnam war not only killed nearly 60,000 American troops , it turned what should be our leadership class , our well off elitist s , into a non serving combat avoiding cowardly class.

Not-my parents not me , not my kids , not my grandkids .

This is not what makes American great again,

. And our country is weaker and more divided for that,

A page from the French?

A US Foreign Legion.

My guess is that they will be more inclined to serve and they will work harder than the well off Americans whose dates of service ended with the end of the draft.

- Anyone with a Bronze Star is a combat war hero, especially SNCOs and FGOs.
- Marines need more flair on their vehicles.
- There is no difference between a 100% DAV and a combat-wounded veteran.
- Currently serving Airmen don't have a weight issue.
- Bacon is terrible

How did Algeria and Dien Bien Phu work out? Legio Patria Nostra and Marche Ou Creve are not mottos. to attract the best.

As for the Draft it would be Macnamara's 100,00 all over again. There are only so many pavement maintenance specialist slots to fill with those currently available and Draft age.

Just to note… this former Marine has zero flair on their car. 😂

Tell me when the Draft has ever been popular. Starting with the Draft Riots of 1863 going forward to the present day. Necessary at times but never popular and vehemently opposed by segments of the population. I remember Marines being drafted in 1968. Bet they didn't know when they followed that yellow line down the hallway the next stop was Paris Island. Probably thought they were going to be a clerk typist and part of Remington's Raiders CONUS.

Things may have changed, but back in my day it was almost a competition between Marine Officers on who could drive the biggest POS. LtCol's who had a "buddy" that would "help" him pass the smog test. Captains that had to have spare parts in the trunk before a drive of any distance (also a vehicle that his wife refused to ride/be seen in). It was hilarious.

My first duty station was Oki. My car flooded in a typhoon. I opened the doors and let the water out. Dried it out a bit and it ran fine. Nothing like an Oki beater. I think at least 50% of company grades have Tacomas these days. I had a used Explorer for most of my time. It was nice, but not new, but did the job.

True Marine shining through in that statement. I let it dry out a BIT !!!!

AIR FORCE Would need a detail job! Or just sell it to a Marine.

I had several friends when I was stationed in California who had jeeps and didn’t even own a top for them. One parked regularly across from base under a closed bank drive through overhang!

interesting bunch……
