Hot Takes/Unpopular Opinions?

I don't know whether I support this until I see the potential uniform designs. And, of course, whether they go the Admiral vs General ranking convention.
I imagine the service dress uniforms would be similar to this:

He is teamed up with Maverick.
Oh, of course. They were roomies at one point, I think. Was Harm’s call sign ever mentioned? Maybe it was Tortman.
I’ve had bacon with breakfast.

I'm not a vet, I'm saying this as a kid. I know how much time is wasted in the life of an average teen nowadays. I'm not saying that people nowadays have become less than they used to be or that they're making poorer decisions (because people in fact remain the same throughout history), I'm simply saying that we have so much more opportunity today for wasting our lives and getting very unhealthy and lazy.
As for the "Greatest Generation", I don't buy it. I don't see anything better about the ww2 generation than any other generation. They were simply in the right place and time to do what they did. A superior nation (in size and resources) like the US didn't NEED some sort of "greatest generation" to do what they did in ww2. World war 2 is full of evidence of the regular stupidity of humans (on both sides).
I disagree. Draft todays 18-25 into the military to fight WW2, we would lose. Half the country would be in litigation revolving around the draft and the half of those drafted wouldn't fight either because snails would be hurt during shelling or the US was committing war crimes. As a nation, the US isn't willing to get its hands dirty. Our military works today because it is a voluntary professional force whose people want to be there. Start drafting people, you will get "it's not my war"

That is a valid point. I agree completely.
That also goes back to my first point about my disappointment with the state of our generation.

While I believe some of what you think would happen with today's youth, I would also imagine very similar things would have been said in May 1941.

(edit to say some, rather than most)

Unless you live under a rock, you very well know that the youth of today isn't the youth of 1941. I agree that generation isn't some sort of Superman generation but let's be honest they arent the same. There were even people who took their own life because they were 4F. You are right every generation says the same about the subsequent generations but in this case it's true at least physically. One of the problems the US military has with getting enough enlisted and officers is that most Americans don't qualify medically or because of drug use. At least in 1941, we didn't have an obesity problem

All true. However, my point was that before Pearl Harbor, there was certainly an overwhelming sentiment of "Not our war" regarding Europe and Asia. Folks still had a hangover from the real world war. The size of the Army was 1/5 the WW1 number, the equipment was obsolete, etc.

Its easy to say today they were so much better suited, etc. But, half were rejected, including due to illiteracy. That is better than the 75% today. But in a war draft setting, I dont think 75 would be rejected.

If Joe Civilian were to go strictly by Hollywood’s depiction, his understanding of the military would be that it’s composed of:

85% SEALs
7% Army infantry
5% submarines
3% Tom Cruise
Don’t forget the .0001% seabees!

We should overhaul the structure of our military branches of service.
In business, we often ask: If I were to start this very business today, from scratch, knowing what I do, how would I set it up?

Through that lens, @GWU PNS proposal makes very good sense. Good businesses are constantly looking for ways to streamline, drive efficiency and create economies of scale. His plan checks off those boxes. Why not?

There are at least 4 Marine Corps Officers that I know personally who are now trying to triangulate your position based on your IP address. If we never hear from you again, I just wanted to say that I appreciate your support. ;)

😂🤣😂🤣 Duly noted!

I’m leaving the country next week for a “mission” in Europe. I’ll be sure to keep moving, maintain a low profile, and constantly check my 6. (By the way, is one of those Marine Corps officers my own DD? Because she knows where I’m going. 😏)

She did ask me to notify her if you informed me of a change in plans. She was either coming after me or you.....and well.....I want to retire. So keep moving to different safe houses and good luck!

There has to be a sizeable number of Pentagon-based paper-pushers out to rein in those few True Heroes doing what they can to save our nation. Even Tom Cruise had to be pushing back against someone out to cut his budget. It's got to be a vast horde, or are they part of the 7% but really well-placed?

that was isolationism and and was political in nature. I don't agree with it but that isn't what is going on now. Let's use another stat, of the 16 million who went to war, between 30% - 40% volunteered. That would make it somewhere between 4.8 and 6.4 million men. US military cant reach its recruitments levels today and we arent invovled in any war (Sure Ukraine but no US forces are involved) .

LOL

I was going to look for that later - You posted that or sent it in pm to me.

Thank you.

There are many classic movie posters and stills which come up. I did think I sent it to you when your son’s path was under discussion.
