Youngest daughter will be there next week for volleyball---not sure where all those other words came from?!?
Any hotel recommendations for Colorado Springs? Son is doing an AFA sports camp in a few weeks. He is flying by himself but we are flying there at the end of the week to pick him up and are going to stay a few extra days to do some exploring in the area, visit campus and do some sightseeing.
What hotels are recommended? Is the Academy Hotel nice? That was the first one that came up on Trip Advisor.
Thank you for any help!
We stayed at the Academy Hotel all last week during graduation. They are right outside the south gate and are very pro AFA. It is family owned and you will not find a better free breakfast in CS. (chef on duty) It is a great hotel. Unless you plan on hanging out in a hotel all day save some money and stay away from the chain hotels and stay here. There are great restaurants within walking distance and they have an indoor pool and an outdoor hot tub. The staff is very pleasant. Advice? Wherever you stay remain close to the school. The drive through campus is long enough to get to the cadet area. Don't waste time driving through town to get back to the school. That's why we always stayed on the south side of campus. Go to Manitou Springs to just walk around or try The Incline. Visit Seven Falls and Garden of the Gods. Lots to do in CS. Have a good time.

The Academy Hotel
use to be a better deal. If you booked directly with them and stayed 10 times, you got a free room. That was past tense. They USE TO give a 10 dollar certificate good for the bar or restaurant even on happy hour. Most recently, they no longer allow you to use it on happy hour and they changed it so it is 50% off if you spend $20. The cookies use to be warm but last month they were dry and store bought. They use to give you a gift bag but that too is a thing of the past.
They still have a good breakfast... For now. But last month they thinned out a few items on the menu (still pretty good though). I've now concluded that you can buy a pretty nice breakfast for the $40 in savings by staying at the HOJO. In short, they lost their edge.
If I am going to pay a premium, I will stay at the Drury Inn and no longer the Academy Inn.
