Starting to think about making reservations in a hotel for both R day and A day even though I haven't heard back from WP yet. I hear they are selling out quickly so that is why I'm thinking of making a reservation and cancelling if WP doesn't work out.

Has anyone stayed at the Bear Mountain Inn overlooking the lake? Seems like a great and beautiful place to be and it is only 15 mins away from campus by car. Let me know if you have visited the hotel or stayed there!

If not, other than the Thayer what other hotels do people recommend for these two dates?

R-Day get something close.
A-Day get something near activities away from West Point that your Cadet might enjoy.
For those who are nearby, March Back is neat to watch.

Also check airbnb.

Bear Mountain Inn is nice but it is not close to anything as far as shopping, restaurants, etc. Across the river to Fishkill is convenient for lots of things very close in way of shopping and restaurants. Or you could head down the Palisades Parkway or NYS Thruway to Spring Valley/Blauvelt area which also has lots of shopping (Palisades Mall is HUGE), restaurants, hotels...and it is halfway to NYC if that is on to do list.

Springhill Suites is the newest in Fishkill, Hyatt House is nice- there are lots of options- Holiday Inn Express, Mariott- they are all right there close together in Fishkill- Wal-Mart, Sam's, Movie Theater, Lots of Places to eat- Mall right down the road- my parents prefer to stay in Fishkill and I prefer for them to stay there- it is always nice to get a break from West Point- 20 miles away- hotel laundry is usually packed- laundromat down the road- they have drop off service too (not too bad $$)- located beside the Shop Rite grocery store- you will want to help Cadet get laundry done on A Day- buy & use plenty of detergent- clothing will reek-

We stayed at the Marriott in Fishkill for DD's overnight. Easy drive to WP.

Fishkill for Aday worked. Near a walmart and my 2020 went shopping there for things he needed for his room. He loved the red line diner. Little bit of a drive.

Aday stay close if you can

Our favorite hotel off-post is the Holiday Inn Express in Fort Montgomery. For A-Day, we got the King suite. It provided a great place for us to visit with our cadet. He didn't want to go out because he was enjoying time in civilian clothes! Also, they have a laundry room so you can wash/dry your cadet's clothes.

This is where I stayed the night before my cadet candidate overnight. It was extremely comfortable and the drive to West Point was less than half an hour. Great place for a family to relax!

DD's grandparents asked whether they could attend A Day..........I really hadn't thought of it. How does that work?

Tickets not required but first come first serve bleacher seating. Suggest getting there no less than 1 hour before start time, earlier better.
You will know your cadets company by then and can sit in appropriate section of bleachers.

I've noticed that recents posts regarding hotels/places to stay don't mention Newburgh. Is this city/town recommended? Can someone provide any tips on where to stay there?

My grandparents are in their 80's- it was sunny and very hot .... a really long wait time- bleachers were packed- my parents brought chairs and set them up on the side of the bleachers in the shade for my grandparents- they still had a good view- my grandparents had a much better experience- comfort- than my parents who sat in the bleachers- there are restrooms in the baseball stadium that are close by and convenient for elderly- consider bringing folding chairs for grandparents

Avoid downtown City of Newburgh. There are some nice hotels near the airport which is actually New Windsor and there is also shopping and restaurants close by. There is a Homewood Suites and Hampton Inn that are both very nice.

THAYER! THAYER! THAYER! Inside the gate, valet parking, Zulu Bar.

When we have not stayed there--because I did not know or was feeling cheap...R-Day, Did I really need two nights? (Yes, I really should have...) We stayed at the Hampton Inn Woodbury Common...Right near a glorious outlet mall (Woodbury Common) and a Walmart and lots of restaurants. A pretty drive from Hampton Inn to West Point.

LOVEEEE Woodbury Commons! It is one of the things I miss since moving south.

We stayed at the Bear Mountain Inn - true it is not close to anything, but the hike up the mountain in the morning was beautiful. The restaurant in the hotel is not great, but fine. Very easy to get to West Point from there.
