Hey everyone, I have wanted to go to the academy for a very long time now and I have been doing everything I can to make myself more competitive in the admissions process. I am currently a sophomore in high school, I currently have a 4.2 GPA, I took the only ap class offered to sophomores, I am in honors math, honors chem and honors English. I played frosh football last year and ran track in the spring. This year I ran varsity cross country and I am in the middle of my track season but it doesn't look like i will hit varsity times. I am also a co-captain in a club, a leader in my church. I am also a part of my schools leadership program. I have run for class office twice but I haven't won as it is mainly a popularity contest or a measure of how attractive each candidate is. -_-
All I'm asking is if I would be considered in the right track and if there is anything else I could do to give myself an edge. Any advice is appreciated

Sounds pretty solid; any athletic option over the winter season? Swimming maybe? Keep yourself in top physical form year round.
Your PSAT scores will be a good indicator of academic strengths and needs when you get them; hard to say from GPA alone due to rampant grade inflation.
Use the summer to bone up on the areas your PSAT points to and remember that Jr. year will really shape your application academically.
Keep up the work and stay on course !!

Good Luck !

What math are taking now - Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Pre-calc?

My school does something called integrated math which blends both algebras and geometry and a little pre-calc. I am in the second level of that, in the honors course. Its all part of the wonderful system that is common core...

I took the PSAT earlier this year and scored a 1250

Since DS took PSAT I think they have re-indexed the scores so I can't compare; pay more attention to what national percentiles your math and English sections rank and also what predicted SAT score will be for you as a Junior [if they still give you that data.] If you are not in upper percentiles [90% or higher]then you know where to put your efforts.
Get the SAT prep book and start the practice tests this summer.

Makes it a little tougher to evaluate, but you want to be on a path to take calculus in your senior year. Preferably either AP Calculus AB or BC.

Whole Candidate Score (WCS) is the most important factor in determining your competitiveness and academics is the highest weighted area (60%) of the WCS. Test scores are very important in that calculation. I am most familiar with the ACT and, if I am correct, the re-indexed PSAT to ACT scores would correlate a 1250 PSAT score with a 27 ACT score. You want to shoot for a 31+ on the ACT or the SAT equivalent to be most competitive.

Take SAT and ACT practice tests to determine if you are clearly better at one test. Pick one test and do a lot of prep work and take that test several times until you get the score you want. USMA super scores, so you benefit from continually taking the test until you hit your goal for each test area.
