Im getting ready to apply to The Citadel as soon as I get my transcripts from my guidance counselor. Please let me know if I am a good candidate...

-GPA(wtd)-3.35
-GPA(unwtd)-3.1
-ACT composite-21 (planning on taking again in Dec.)
-Class Rank-Top Half (not sure exact # yet)
-ECs-Baseball (9th & 10th grade) Lacrosse (11th & 12th grade)
-Lots of community service (Habitat, parks & rec, etc.)
-AP & Honors classes taken
-My school has a very well known engineering department and it is the only one in the area. I have taken all 5 classes offered in the program and I'm planning on majoring in Civil Engineering...

I am planning on entering the NROTC program offered at The Citadel, and I'm currently attending PT sessions two-to-three times a week at my local Marine Corps Recruiting Substation. Would this be a plus on the resume?

I would greatly appreciate any advice or thoughts...

Your ACT score is a little low and your GPA is alright, but your Extra curricular activities look good. Definitely study for the ACT and re-take it. Don't wait to send your application in. You can have your scores sent to The admissions office as soon as you retake it, and they'll add it to your admissions information.

But then again, I'm not an admissions counselor. That's just my opinion. The Citadel's admission process seems to place more weight on well-rounded individuals, but they still want to see that you have done well academically because knob year puts considerable strain on your academics (not to say that you can't/won't do well, but that it won't be easy).

Thanks, I am definitely re-taking the ACT in December. Another question, how long should I expect for my application to be reviewed?

You'll get into Citadel no problem champ. 3.1 unweighted is solid as well as your EC's. You'll be fine

I applied in late July and got my acceptance letter during the first week of September. But then again, that was 2 years ago. They have been getting an increasing number of applications each year, and you are applying mid-year, so I don't know exactly how long you will have to wait.

Gotcha, thanks for all the help.

You should be good! I can't guarantee anything obviously but these were my scores (and I got accepted)

ACT:21
GPA:3.5
Top Half
No sports
4 years of JROTC
and a lot of community service

You should be alright!!

You have nothing to worry about. Many people at the Citadel were only accepted to the Citadel because they weren't accepted at any major universities because of their grades. Even though knob year puts strain on your academics, as long as you stay focused you will do fine. You have plenty of time to do things, you just have to use your time efficiently. That means you have plenty of time to study and do other knobs things. Your typical day will be going to bed around 1130-1200 and waking up at about 6am. Every minute of your day should be used efficiently. If you are wasting time you are probably doing something wrong.

Thanks for all your feedback guys. I sent away all my final paperwork to the Citadel about three weeks ago. I really do hope I get accepted. On another note, does anyone know if Norwich and VMI are more difficult to get into or about the same as the Citadel? I'm planning on applying to both as other option schools. I know right now for sure that Senior Military College is what I want.
