Hello, I am a current H.S sophomore aiming for the USNA. These are my current stats.

1. 4.1 Weighted GPA
2. Haven't taken PSAT yet, school is being unclear about how administering will go, but I plan to take it if I could.
3. Was very active in JROTC in freshman year, participated in competitive and ceremonial color guard.
4. Did alot of STEM activities throughout middle school and freshman year
5. Had honors in freshman year and am taking honors and an AP class this year.

I also am physically active but did not participate in any sport except some inner unit sports in JROTC. Will this be a problem in the application later?
I am also in the process of getting in contact with a BGO, and participate in the virtual webinars and admission forums the academy have every now and then.
Is there any way I can continue to improve and is there any additional tips?

You're doing good. If you look at the Class Profile on USNAs Website, you will see that about 91% of 2024 were Varsity Athletes. If thats not you, then you probably need to have a very strong GPA and AP/Honor courses. There are many factors. Your ECAs are good. If you read around the forum, you will see examples of applicants qualifications. Its good to reach out to your BGO early. Good luck.

Definitely try to participate in a sport that interests you, and be good at it. Sports seem to be emphasized with the Service Academies. For me, being involved with cross country (co-captain), track and field, wrestling, judo, and BJJ also helped me because it gave me things to talk about during my interviews. Sports can teach you good leadership and team lessons, meaning they are good for you in ways other than purely athletic. Good luck, and keep on pushing yourself!

Definitely get involved in sports. I realize it's harder during COVID, but persevere. Look at school sports, city/county/town sports, venues like Catholic leagues, police leagues, etc. You can get into a SA without sports, but it's a lot more difficult.

Try to do something productive during the summer. Take vacation, but also find time to volunteer, work, take additional classes, learn a new skill, etc.

Was involvement in JROTC this year not possible because of CoVid? If JROTC was for you, consider getting involved in JROTC your junior and senior years again. Read up the different types of nominations, especially on service-connected nominations. https://www.usna.edu/Admissions/Apply/NROTC-Units.php Depending on your JROTC program (if it an Honor Unit with Distinction?) Your JROTC instructor may be able to nominate you for a service connected nomination (while you parallelly seek to get your MOC nominations). "Past participation does not qualify."

Thank you for the replies!

Yeah, my school does not have NJROTC available as a virtual option. I will see to get involved in team sports around my areas.
