How are LOAs charged to vacancies?

So here's the deal. Two people in my Congressional district have been given LOAs. I have only been given an LOE (I say "only" in comparison, of course an LOE is still something to be proud of). Basically, if our Congressmen only has one vacancy, will they be charged for the two people with an LOA? If I come third in the competition slate, but two LOAs are ahead of me, can I still be offered an appointment? Is it even possible for 3 people from 1 district to go?

Basically I want to know if someone with an LOA "counts" for that vacancy.

Any help is appreciated.
 
It is absolutely possible for 3 people from the same district to go. In fact, it's possible for all 10 people on a slate to go. It's just incredibly rare for that to happen.

As for how vacancies are charged to LOA candidates, I don't know. I probably should, as I have done research and am an LOA holder myself... I am fairly certain they do count. Not sure if "free slots" are an urban legend. Someone else can answer this for you.
 
How about either one of your two Senators? Did you interview with both of them and are sure that you won't get a nomination from either?
Did you apply for the VPOTUS nomination?

When it comes to "clout" the LOAs have you at a disadvantage, but all 3 of you could be nominated by that MOC and it would be up to USMA to figure out how to charge the nominations, should they want to extend offers to all 3 of you.
 
Thanks GoArmy2022. I actually just learned one of those LOA kids has commited to any Ivy rather than West Point, so I'm not sure if that will change anything in the future. Thanks again.
 
THParent, yes I have interviewed for both Senators but feel confident I can secure a Nomination from my Congressman. Since NY Reps. typically "share the wealth" I may get a Senator nomination if my Congressional one doesn't work out.

This'll help you. If that kid is number 1 and rejects, it'll go to number 2. If number 2 rejects, the cycle will repeat. You may actually wind up charged to your Rep. I don't know how likely it is because I can't evaluate your circumstance. I don't know if the Ivy kid will change his mind. I don't know if the other LOA holder wants to go to West Point or to another SA or to Harvard, or if he's being charged to a Senator instead. So I can't tell you what your chances are.

There is no way to know and really doesn’t change how you compete. If your MOC submits a competitive slate, then the slate gets ranked and the LOA doesn’t matter. If you win the slate, you will get an offer and get charged to the MOC. The LOA recipient will get an offer as an Additional Appointee. If the LOA holder wins the slate you go to the NWL.

That is actually not true...they are only obligated to offer to Number 1 on slate. If they decline they do not have to offer to #2 (do they usually, yes, but not a given). The reason I know this is DD was #2 on our congressional slate, #1 declined and a prior enlisted from our district out of USMAPS was charged to our congressman and she is currently a sponsored civil prep and waiting on appointment for Class of '22. Like I said this was probably an anomaly, but things do happen.
 
Okay. Thank you! That actually makes a lot of sense--we hear things from everywhere, and I'm glad that if we make mistakes we have other people to correct us so everyone gets accurate information!

Trust me we thought same last cycle and DD was very disappointed when she found out differently. Don't want anyone else to get hopes up and then something out of ordinary happen...motto is it isn't official until BFE!

I'm not sure why everyone gets so involved. You can't predict it, and you can't change it. Just wait and see how it all unfolds.

If you really try to figure it all out, there is a chance of brain damage... and that will have to be reported to dodmerb.

There's definitely a lot to it! Perhaps one of us will wind up an Admissions Officer or something one day and learn the process! I'm getting a headache just thinking about it!
