How are Setbacks viewed by the Regiment of Midshipman

we (the non-training staff) were given EXPLICIT instructions to avoid ALL recognition activities under the very real threat of being stuck on the spot.
I always thought recognition was the ENTIRE regiment recognizing them as fellow M/N. Doesn't it follow that the ENTIRE regiment should be involved? We knew the week before we were recognized that it was coming. You started seeing all the 1/C bringing milk back to their rooms from Delano and you would see it sitting on top of their radiators in the rooms when you took their trash out in the morning.

I tried to keep a guy out of trouble once by logging the incident as "M/N X was brought to the MOD shack by security ...". It didn't help him any and he was still kicked out in the end. It was apparent when I was testifying at his E-board that I was the only one who found humor in the M/N X log entry.

that WOULD make sense, now wouldnt it.

also, much tamer this year, apparently. same mudpit, same logs, same pushups, but without the eggs, condiments, and alot of the more "H-word" oreiented stuff that traditionally makes recognition fun for both sides. but hey, im just a dumb deck cadet, what do i know.

This is from a page dedicated to Set-Backs in my son’s plebe year annual…

From what I gather looking at the photos on this yearbook page, there’s quite a cast of ‘ne'er-do-well’ ‘characters’ all looking like they're having fun and enjoying the 'typical college experience'. There are pictures of 'club members' “Shady JD”, “Weasle”, “Creeper”, “El Nino” and “Doctor” to name a few.. Judging by the photos, I would say that most of them would more likely be found hanging out at Kings Point Park after hours, than studying or attending ‘social functions’ on campus.. and MAYBE that's one of the reasons they were set back. It also seems like more than a few of the 530 CLUB members were my son’s former rugby teammates..

Oh, my. The Rugby Club. Lots of trouble makers there, to be sure. Of course not like back in the day. . . . .
