Hello,
I am currently a sophomore and graduating year 2022. I’m planning on applying to usafa in my junior year. I was wondering in what I needed to improve on and what I should do to improve my chances of getting accepted. Some of my accomplishments
Last year I was rank one out of my class with a 4.6 gpa. I am in varsity cross country and track. I’m doing community service/ volunteer work. I am in 2 clubs (NHS and Environmental club) and will be leader of one next year. I got a decent score on my psat which was a 1100. This year I am taking very difficult classes 2 AP and 3 honors, but I ended the semester with 2 B+. Next semester I am trying to get straight A’s again and I am planning to get a job over the summer. What should I improve on and start doing?

Look into Boys State ... and other leadership roles like captain of sports teams. Work hard at getting excellent SAT scores. Work hard at the CFA.

You have a good base to work with. The Academy likes to see varsity athletes with letters and Team Captainships. But as already stated, your ACT and SAT scores can make or break your application. Study and study some more. A really good score can put you ahead of other applicants while a mediocre one can hinder you. Work on the cfa and keep the grades up!

Thanks for the advice! Do you know when you have to take the CFA?

Thanks for the advice! For the SAT and ACT what would be a good score to be competitive?

Head over to academyadmissions.com for details on competitive test scores, GPA, and more information on what they're looking for in an applicant. Good luck!

An 1100 on the PSAT may seem decent to you when compared to peers or within your school but it is way below "decent" when looking at the Service Academy applicant base. You really need to pull that up a couple of hundred points to get into what we tend to see as average for most parts of the country. In competitive districts, a competitive number is more like 1400 or even higher. I interviewed 10 candidates last month and I think that almost all were over 1400 for the SATs.
