How do appointments come

I received LOA that stipulated I just needed my nomination to receive an appointment. My portal updated to show I do have a nom, and I was wondering how appointments are sent, are they via email, via phone, via snail mail? I just want to make sure I know where to look as I screen all callers not in my contacts and rarely check email.
 
During our son’s cycle the beloved Fed Ex envelope beat the update to the portal or call from a MOC. It is likely to fluctuate year to year. No rules.
Sounds like you met the stipulations of your LOA and with a Nom in hand, you are in an enviable spot. Congratulations.

A few years ago I found out via call from my coach. The service was terrible at the academy at the time; it’s gotten a lot better. I just heard a jumbled up voice saying “check your portal” sure enough I checked it out and I was accepted! I’ll never forget that day!

My DS received an email from his MOC stating they were informed that an appointment is being offered by USNA and it will appear in his portal on this date (Dec 28th.) Which was five days away. He received that email a year ago today and it was in his portal on the 28th of December. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU !
 
Seems little has changed since my day in the 70s. Of course everything was done by snail mail back then. I recall that some time after my nomination, I was told that I was an alternate appointment, but likely to get one. Next letter, about a week later stated that I was invited to orientation (didn't go, I was living on the West Coast back then), and that was reserved for those with appointments. Hmm. . . .then, about a week later, I got my appointment. Just relax and go with the flow.

How long after you saw your portal updated with your USNA appointment did it take to get the BFE? Just wondering as DS is very low key and holding off updating some family until he has BFE in hand even though Portal shows appointment.

For the 2024 cycle it showed up about two weeks after the portal update. DS's was found in a shrub near the front porch, it was a BFE and wouldn't fit in the mailbox. Nice mail carrier put it on the stoop, and we don't use that door so had no idea it was there. The wind pushed it into the shrub. Pleasant surprise to say the least.

But, each cycle is different, always.

Like 2 weeks? If that.. it came pretty quickly
