Hi, I know there are too many posts to count of individuals asking whether or not they have a competitive enough resume to be accepted for a nomination/admission. However, I am worried about the current state of my affairs and would like any and all constructive criticism and/or reassurance. I Have a 3.8 un-weighted gpa and a 4.2 weighted gpa with a class rank of 130/800. I just recently took the SAT and scored a 570 on the verbal (extremely low, I assume), 640 on the math, and 600 on the writing portion, bringing my score to 1810. I have earned my Gold Medal of Achievement, which is the highest award for Royal Rangers, a ministry in the AG church that is inherently "boy scouts for christ." The GMA is considered by most to be the equivelant to the Eagle scout. I have attended an anual militaristic leadership camp that is 4 days long for the past 6 years and plan to attend it this year also. I have held many leadership positions within several churches (I move quite a bit), and have volunteered regularly at countless fundraisers, camps, and activities. I am a jv tennis player, but hope to soon make varsity as of my senior year. I am extremely physically fit with a body fat-muscle ratio of about 8%. My mile time is also 6 minutes and 30 seconds. I try to work out regularly also. I have held a job for the last 6 months at a roller skating rink, and now have a job at sonic. Sorry for such a long list, but in the pursuit of the most accurate responses possible, i deemed it necessary. Again, thanks for all of your time, as I know you are busy.

Math is a large factor as engineering is pushed very strongly despite West Point being a liberal arts school. My scores were 630 Verbal, 740 Math and 550 Writing. I'd recommend trying to get your math to a 700 at least, but its about the norm at USMA. Rank is taken into consideration however it isn't AS important as you'd think. Your GPA/SAT/ACT scores, your class difficulty, % of students that get sent off to college and so on are just as important. Your stats look good, just keep up the leadership activities (very big influence on nominations). Also prep for the physical test you'll have to take to send in.

There's no promises on how strong somebody is because its also highly definitive on how competitive your region is. If you're the only one applying within 500 square miles you'll get in, but if you're one of fifty in ten square miles your chances are reduced significantly. Just keep up the work and strive to improve! It looks good though.

Preface - I'm applying for class of 2017, so I don't know exactly how I measure up. But I have been accepted into SLS, USAFA SS, and NASS.

Okay - try to get your GPA up.

Test scores are VERY important, so make sure to at-least match last years class' stats. [This is stickied at the top of this forum, it's called "What are my Chances?"]
But aim for upper 700s in every section.

But generally, just keep working hard and stay motivated!
