AIM applications open Mon., Feb. 6. AIM, the annual summer experience from Admissions, is a great way for new high school juniors to see if the Academy - or any service academy - is right for you. We think it’s the most realistic program of its kind! Visit www.uscga.edu/AIM to learn more.
Also make sure you reach out to the coaches - they may be able to assist you getting to AIM and further down the road ... my son's (2021) future USCGA coach was awesome in the process

How did they assist with getting him to AIM? Like what role did they play? Just curious!

I'm not sure what your times are or the technical difficulty of your XC courses but being All-state I would assume they are very good. In our conversations with Coach B at the USCGA when we visited he stated as a starting point he wanted my DS to be at a 17:00. Unfortunately, he fell short by about a minute this season. I would believe that your times would be easily competitive for D3. Now, in terms of the USNA which is D1 that's a bit different. I know a runner who ran for our rival HS and she put up times basically around the 19:00 mark or so and she is running for the USNA as a C/4C. So, if your times are equivalent I would think there may be a chance.
I think I am mainly planning on running track only in college but that may change. Do you know anything about the track program?

Tennis Dad quoted what I responded on another thread concerning "chances" posts. Looking at your post, and for others that read this, let me make one thing clear...high level math and science courses are imperative to have in order to be successful at CGA. You have listed IB Math 2 and Statistics. Which IB math level are you? SL or HL? Most students have taken AP Calculus A/B, and many B/C and higher. You also list Biology. You will not see biology related science at CGA unless you are a MES major. However you will have to pass Calculus I and II, Chemistry I and II, and Physics I and II (Gov majors only take Physics I) in the first two years at CGA. Those first two years at CGA are extremely difficult, heavy STEM, course loads. I have fielded numerous messages from parents shocked when their 4.0 super-star child fails two classes their first semester. Preparation is the key.

As for recruited athletes, stay in contact with the coaching staff at CGA. They are very open to discuss your future as related to their teams.
I am in HL for math and it is my last year in IB mathematics. That schedule seems a little daunting as calculus is my weakness, but i'm sure if I were to take advantage of tutoring and put in the work I could manage it. I may take Calc next year instead of Stats. As for Physics, it's too late for me to switch sciences as IB sciences junior and senior year are 2-part courses and I must do biology next year too. Unfortunately I hadn't considered going to a service academy this time last year when I put together my junior schedule.

This is absolutely not true. Captainship of a sports team adds substantial points to an application. All of the academies recognize being a team captain as a leadership plus. Perhaps at your HS they may be popularity contests, but overall the academies regard them highly.

At my school it is based on hard work. The coaches select the captains, not the team.

i am sure if you are what they want on their team they can ask admissions to get you into an aim group - i am sure they wont guarantee it outright but if you are what they want and they feel you want to be there ... they probably have avenues to make things happen

Just quoting what I was told by a Mjr at USMA at an Admissions office Q&A. My DS took great pride in being Capt of three different sports teams. Took the 'job' quite seriously. Didn't mean to rile feathers.

WOW. I'm 15'4" in Long Jump and a 1:02 400! I expected those numbers to be way different. Thank you so much!!

Then you're certainly on the right track. Also, practice the events for the CFA. Upper body strength typically lags behind for a runner. My DS has proven that theory when he took his test. His run was 5:20 and his shuttle was 7.33. Sit-ups were good as we're push-ups. But his BB throw and pull-ups...yeah, not so much.

I think you're in good shape. Stay strong academically with taking the tough STEM courses, get into a leadership position in CAP, volunteer, and score well on the SAT.

Best of luck next year. Keep an eye out for when your MoC's open up their application process in the early fall. Try to get into AIM or NASS if you live close enough or have the means.

And that is why you need to make sure you reach out to coaches. You will be a valuable asset to the T&F program. Do not underestimate what coaches can do for you in your quest to attend. They have do have pull. Every candidate needs a hook to set them apart from other applicants. Sports is the best way to do it.

My DS future coach helped also. He told him to apple for AIM. He watched for his application and helped get it through. It is important to some of the coaches to have their recruits go to AIM so they are sure they know what they are getting into.

You seem like a solid candidate...If you're interested in the USCGA, I'd say apply to the Merchant Marine Academy as well. It's a service academy without an active military service obligation, requires a congressional nomination (like Navy) though.

Just to clarify for everyone, it's not that i want to know what my chances are, but more that I am seeking input on how to improve my application while I still have time. I realize that so many other factors go into being accepted.
You seem to have a wonderful resume. You have worked hard and made great choices athletically and academically. If you still have time, look into attending Girls State. This is a great program and demonstrates leadership and diversity in your resume.
Girls State is held over the summer and is about two weeks long. Your high school guidance counselor should have details.

RYLA is also a great option - hosted by your local rotary clubs

I'm a HS junior planning on applying to the USNA and USCGA for the Class of 2022, because I come from a Navy family and the Coast Guard mission appeals to me. I'm wondering how my academic and athletic stats stack up with other people in my situation and/or people that have received appointments already. If anyone would share their stats or give me feedback on mine that would be great!

Also note that my Freshman and Sophomore schedules were all Honors, AP, or IB with an A grade avg. in each.*
