How do I start the DoDMERB process?

Hello everyone! My name is Wendy, and I'm a senior in high school currently applying to the Coast Guard Academy. I am having trouble figuring out how to start my DoDMERB process. I don't know how to set up my appointment for the examination or where to even find that information. I have a friend who has done it already this month, but was only able to because she was sent a link in an email from West Point, which she had opened an application for. Any help is much appreciated!

CGA doesn't have everyone go through DODMERB, as they're a smaller institution and they try to use resources carefully. I think West Point more or less refers everyone automatically. The upshot is that CGA only refers applicants after they decide there's a good chance of making it. This may take a while, so watch your spam filter and give admissions a chance to review your docs. Consider that a lot of EA apps may arrive in bunches and they might be a little buried. If you don't hear from them in 2-3 weeks then maybe reach out to Admissions, but the delay is normal.

This is something out of your control. The SA initiates the process, and they are all on different timelines and use different criteria for triggering it. You only do the exam once. All SAs and ROTC programs have access to results at DoDMERB.

In the meantime, you can educate yourself on the DoDMERB process by going to the DoDMERB landing page and reading through every menu item on the left-hand side, including Contacts. You do not need a login to do this.

Concur with @StPaulDad and @Capt MJ

The USCGA will provide DoDMERB your name to get an exam. USCGA won't ask DoDMERB to do an exam on all their applicants. No one here knows (or professes to know, anyway) what criteria or timeframe the USCGA uses to trigger an exam for its applicants.

What everyone said so far is accurate. Keep in mind some of the other academies will trigger DoDmerb upon completion of a certain portion of the application. Example, USMMA will trigger DoDmerb once academic info is complete and satisfactory.

The USCGA application is submitted all at once. My point is, if for no other reason than potentially having access to DoDmerb, it is probably a good idea to work diligently on your application and get it submitted ASAP.

Good luck!

Just as a side note. Keep a watchful eye on your spam folder as DoDMERB emails have a tendency to be seen as spam by a lot of email providers.

Per my USAFA Mentor, applying to Army ROTC is the fastest way to trigger DODMERB, as they will send anyone to it that has 3/4 of their application done and an unofficial transcript uploaded. Your exam works across the board so it will apply to CGA as well.
