First I am not a KP midshipman, I'm across the pond at SUNY Maritime, but I have a question which I think I might be able to find an answer to here. How do KP midshipman commission into the army? Do you have army ROTC on campus? If so, isn't sea year a conflict with ROTC ?

I'm currently trying to commission army but summer cruise with SUNY/pursuing my merchant marine deck credentials, seems to be a bit of a conflict when it comes to Army ROTC and my national guard obligations. I was thinking about contracting MARAD SIP (Navy ROTC program on campus), and then requesting a branch transfer when it comes time to commission into the army. According to MARAD's Service Obligation criteria SIP midshipman/cadets can commission into any branch of their choice reserve or active, obviously the majority if not all commission navy SSO. Do you think this is actually feasible/possible?

I figured KP would have more army guys/gals than SUNY because I'm the only one to my knowledge. I'd appreciate your help.

A few Mids commission into the Army every year, so it is definitely possible, but not common. My understanding is that it is a fairly simple application process you do first class year, followed by a routine approval.

Do you know if any get active duty slots in combat arms branch of the army or is it mostly reserve/engineer corps? From what limited research I could do it seemed like most KP grads that do go army are in the reserves or commission as engineer officers

There is a US Army officer on campus that coordinates midshipmen's training (Air Assault, Airborne, USA commissions, etc). I know past Mids who went Infantry, Engineer, Aviation.

2017. Navy- 29 or 29 including 9 pilot slots and 3 SEALS (a very high number-usually 1 or 2) Air Force- 5 including 2 pilots. Coast Guard 8 including 1 cutter slot. KPers usually get inspection slots. Marines 4- a few years ago 2 alums landed their Osprey on campus. Army 12 including infantry, air assault, tanks. Before COVID, the SEALS and Marines had 2 0430 play sessions a week. Representatives of all services are readily available. One can also commission into the Space Force, National Guard, Air National Guard, NOAA, and PHS. Two in that class received waivers and now work for a major defense contractor.

I believe 5 total going active duty Army in 2021, not sure how many are going Army reserves. Of those going active duty, one Aviation spot and the other four are going Infantry or other options.

I have the correct numbers for 2021 going active duty Army:
3 Infantry
1 Aviation
1 Engineering

I believe 3 are going Reserves in NG in various states and with three different specialties: aviation, transportation, and military police.

How do they get any Army officer training? Do KP go to a Army version of Leatherneck like the KP seeking USMC commissions? Do they go tp ROTC advance camp to be evaluated for the Army's OML for new Lt's?

I cannot speak definitively, but there is an Army liaison assigned to KP. This last trimester for all those going Army, there is a class, Military Science for Army Officers, I believe Tuesdays and Thursdays, where they do a sort of Army familiarization. My son reports in July to a basic leadership for officers one month course--attended by other recent West Point grads and possibly ROTC. As for the other active duty Army and Army Reserve/NG officers, I'm not sure where they branch.

If you'd like more information, you may contact KP. Hope this helps!
