How do you get a PE SOE without a PE Course?

We live in Florida. Florida requires one Health and Wellness PE class for graduation. My DS took this classroom PE class in the first semester of his freshman year and has not taken any other "PE" classes. He is a letterman in three Varsity sports and his one Varsity Coach is a Certified PE teacher but apparently WP will not accept Coaches SOE's even if they are PE teachers. How do we get a PE SOE when my DS never took any "PE" courses?

My DS ran into a similar issue - his first SOE was rejected as the PE instructor was also his coach. Another PE instructor, who had not been a coach for my DS, agreed to review the SOE questions with two of my son's coaches and then submit the SOE. The second SOE was accepted by USMA.

Does your school have JROTC? That's also an option. My son graduated from a magnet school with no sports or PE. Since coaches aren't allowed, an JROTC officer wrote his even though he was not in JROTC. He contacted my DS's trainer/coach and wrote his letter.

Our son was told by his RC that NO COACHES are accepted no matter what, they have to have taught the candidate PE. So now he has asked the JROTC Chief who did his CFE to do his SOE. If the RC rejects this one because our son is not in JROTC there are going to be problems. We hope it is just the RC trying to determine how much or son really wants WP and what he is willing to do to get in. We will see.

How do you come to this conclusion. Have you spoken to someone in admissions and described this particular problem?

So if I were to have never taken a PE class (due to credits being received for varsity sports), I’d have to get the SOE handled by a random PE teacher I’ve never worked with?

Apparently according to our son's RC, you couldn't do that. His original SOE for PE shows still as accepted on his portal, but his RC called him today and told him if the PE teacher didn't actually teach him in a PE Course it was no good. In Florida HS students don't have to take ANY actual PE classes, just one Health and Wellness classroom course. Our DS is a three sport Letterman and has competed for three of the four years in HS, with the same Coach/PE Instructor teaching and supervising him but WP rejected the SOE.... The RC told him to get the schools JROTC teacher to do it.....I'm thinking this ought to be good...this person only knows our DS through the CFE, how can he do a realistic evaluation if the PE teacher who is his Coach and has worked with him for three years can't???? Doesn't make sense! I already have my angst up and am just waiting for the RC to deny the JROTC SOE.....

We had a very similar issue with my DS. His coach had originally filled out the form because he had not taken a PE class since 9th grade due to playing varsity sports every year and it was kicked back. In the end, we had the guy at his school who administered his CFA complete the evaluation and they accepted that.

Could he not get the teacher he had from his freshman year class to do the SOE? My PE teacher was from my sophomore year I believe.

He could, but what would that teacher know or remember about him???? Or would that teacher be even willing to sign something she didn't remember anything about? Our son already talked to the JROTC Chief who administered his CFE and he is doing it this afternoon. I just hope it does not get "kicked" because our son has naken any JROTC classes....We will see.

School Official Evaluations. Similar to a letter of recommendation from teachers

Actually my DS spoke with his RC, both verbally and thru text msg. He still has the texts. That they would not be able to accept PE SOE's unless the PE teacher physically taught the candidate. But any JROTC supervisor could. Crazy, the ROTC Chief only knew my DS thru his CFE. Nice guy, did us a favor, but doesn't know our son, and has never taught or observed him over time. But that one was accepted …. Makes no sense, wouldn't they rather have the opinion of someone who has taught, supervised, and observed someone for three years over someone who watched and videoed the CFE?

In my opinion you are putting way too much thought into this. Just do what the RC says. The SOEs won't make a difference in the long run.

That's what we did....I just thought it weird that they would rather have someone who did not know our DS do a recommendation, rather than someone who has taught and observed him. Not blaming anyone, just thought it weird.
