How does NASS help your Naval Academy Application

As others have said, not everyone who gets into NASS gets into USNA and vice versa. With that being said, there was a handwritten note on my DS's LOA from USNA from the Director of Admissions that referenced his outstanding performance at NASS, so those write-ups by the Mid detailers are being read by somebody. DS obviously had a strong packet in order to get an appointment, but we'll never know if NASS was really impactful on him receiving the LOA, or if that was simply an observation comment.

November 2014. He ended up not going to USNA, though, and graduated from USMA in May.

Applying to a SA is a long and stressful enough process. Starting to analyze things like NASS and CVW invites to the mix adds even more to the stress. Control what you can control, and TRY not to think about other things. If you get invites, that's a great thing. If you do not, it is not a bad thing.

Selection to NASS is not random. Nor is it straight rack-and-stack. GPA, test scores, athletic participation are certainly taken into consideration. But every year there are attendees whose qualifications -- based on those factors -- are inferior to those who were not selected. As has been said many times on SAF, NASS is primarily a recruiting and awareness-building program. It's a means of reaching candidates from certain segments and regions. So "numbers" act as a preliminary screen (and perhaps a tiebreaker among otherwise similar candidates), but they are neither the end-all-be-all nor completely irrelevant.
Well according to a few folks in admissions it surely is! Not sure where you are getting your info from...

I recently attended NASS (Naval Academy Summer Seminar), and I was wondering if that helps improve your chances of getting into the academy considering there is a evaluation added to your profile by your squad leader?
You quickly learn this is an amazing forum. Keep in mind, most everything here is opinion. Most of it excellent. Some, eh. I have made certain to pay attention to NavyHoops and Capt MJ. If these two ladies respond, I give it tremendous weight. My two cents.

It's been stated many times on this site, NASS does not help. Directly, maybe not. I don't know. I have no expertise. I am just a Dad. My daughter attended NASS. I have no idea if this help her eventual appointment.

I think it helped in getting her Noms, from what she told us after her Nomination Interviews. She said all the MOC boards she met with ask her about the experience and seemed impressed with her responses around the experience. I think it demonstrates, you have some idea of what you are committing to. Additionally, it gave her, what I think was a Bad A**, topic for her essays, for those same MOC committees.

Be proud of your experience and leverage it the best way for your circumstance. Good Luck!
