How does USMA choose who gets an invite to SLE?

My son is a Junior and has applied to USMA and SLE for class of 2026. Does anyone know what they are looking for to invite a candidate to SLE? My son has a 1280 on SAT (taking again in March), 5.12 weighted GPA due to college level classes on a 5.0 scale, is #1 out of 50 students at a private school, 2 varsity sports (football and soccer) with letter in both and 1 captain role (soccer), he volunteers with our homebound from our church (in the Congressional Award Program), works part time as a vet tech.

He is really hoping to get an invite so he can see what USMA is like (assuming they can have SLE due to Covid). We are a non-military family but greatly support our military. Thank you for any feedback.

I don't think there is any set formula for selection. It is definitely used to help sell itself. FFR's can and do make recommendations for invites. My DS said he enjoyed the overnight visit much more than SLE for what it's worth.

They select SLE attendants through a mock WCS I believe, the general idea is that they are attempting to recruit cadet candidates who they believe have the potential to be competitive in the next application cycle. I got my SLE offer in 2020 with a GPA of 3.7, SAT 1370, and 44/647.

Also, as others have mentioned in many a thread on this subject, these camps are also a means of 'exposing' candidates from across the country to the Academy. It is likely to bring people from all states and demographics as a means of 'advertising' the SA to those candidates.

SLE selection is based on a number of factors but is driven primarily by academics (standardized test scores and GPA). You can continue to update with additional test scores, so the Feb ACT scores and March SAT scores can be sent in to update a file. Geographic representation is also an important consideration because of the role nominations play in the application process as are the talent and diversity goals of the Academy.
