A Few Questions Regarding ALOs

There is some useful info in this thread.

My DS is on his third ALO since completing his SS application over a year ago. He only received 1 email reply in that time, and that never materialized into a phone conversation as hoped. Thankfully he was able to speak with an ALO visiting his CAP unit, and another former ALO who is DW’s coworker.

The “answer” to your question is, I don’t think it is important to have contact with them, based on the advice of those posting in link.

OP asked ALO is almost non existent. How important are they....

The DOD asked RAND to evaluate USAFA's effectiveness in graduating officers to the USAF. The 2016 report is available online at rand.org

Information in the report suggests that the Selection Composite Score for each candidate is a compilation of 60% academic, 20% leadership and 20% selection panel. The ALO evaluation is part of the 20% selection panel score.

The report contains lots of charts and generalizations. I found it informative, others not so much.

Yes, but back then the ALO did the interview. That is not the case anymore.

I received an appointment 1/16/20 for the USAFA. My only contact with my ALO was when I asked him about scheduling my interview, to which he replied he would not be the one giving it and I would receive that information upon completing my portal. In short, the ALO is only there to help with questions, and whether or not the applicant has a relationship with their ALO is not currently considered in Candidate Evaluations AFAIK
