How is the food at USAFA? Is it different for athletes?

My cadet just completed an exchange semester at AFA. He was unimpressed with the dining hall, to say the least. He pretty much only ate there when he had no other option or it was mandatory. On the plus side, AFA allows cadets to have small refrigerators in their rooms (not 4/c unless they get permission), and there were protein drinks and the like available in the gym, so he always grabbed something after a workout.

Mitchell Hall (Mitch's) food is average cafeteria food. Not better, not worse than your average university cafeteria.

A lot of athletes require additional calories, so they are allowed a mini-frig in their rooms. All cadets can keep food in their rooms -- sealed plastic containers are HIGHLY recommended for in room food. I've seen protein bars, nuts, popcorn, etc. stored in trunks (in plastic containers) in cadet rooms.

All cadets are weighed to ensure they aren't losing too much weight. If that happens, then additional calories are "ordered" -- usually in the form on Boost.

In addition to Mitch's, there is Richter Lounge Food Court in Arnold Hall -- Dominos, Subway, Polaris Perk (aka Starbucks), Lucy's Grill (Mediterranean and Armenian Dishes).

As C4Cs, you may not get the option to go to the food court as often as you'd like.

May I ask how he ate on a daily basis when he did not eat in the cafeteria? Food from the fridge in the room?

Yea, I was referring to both. Is there preferential treatment or do all cadets have the same food options?
There is no menu. Breakfast during the week is served family style. Normally eggs with waffles/breakfast sandwich/potatoes/pancakes/etc (i.e. they serve one of those options). Lunch during the week is mandatory, also served family style. It varies greatly, some meals are okay, others not so much (see below). Dinner, as well as breakfast and lunch on the weekend, is buffet style. There are a few choices, but not many. Cadets, myself included, like to complain about it, but at the end of the day, free food is free food (as free as free can be).

Falcon Express is always an option.

My cadet complains about Mitch's all the time. He only eats there when he has no choice. Mitch's food is a running joke with him.

He spent some time at USNA and he says the food at King's Hall is far better.
