I just heard President Trump refer to attending graduation. I’m familiar with USNA holding theirs virtually, Mids are mostly home. I’m also familiar with how USAFA keeping their Firsties on campus and are graduating them tomorrow (wahooo!!). How is USMA commissioning their class? President Trump just spoke to all 5 of the SA’s, and said he will be at USMA and USAFA (if I heard correctly?).

Did USMA stay on campus?

USMA did not stay on campus.

VP pence will be at USAFA grad tomorrow, and Pres Trump did just announce he would be at West Point grad but no details on bringing the seniors back or how the grad will take place.

Time will tell. The cadets left for spring break with all their personal belongings still in their barracks. Flying at least the Firsties back to graduate and clear out their rooms might raise some eyebrows, but could be done.

President Trump has been the anticipated graduation speaker for some time. The President rotates among the SA's and it is USMA's turn. But because of the obvious commitments of the President, it is not formalized and announced until the President's schedule is finalized.

USAFA graduated today, USNA is doing it virtually. I suspect the decision on USMA is at The White House level, rather than the Superintendent, but no doubt the Superintendent is in the loop..

As of a few weeks ago, USMA's COVID-19 response plan set a decision date of NLT April 26th for when 2020 will return, graduate, and commission, but that date may have changed since.

Interesting dilemma. Stop move vs graduation.

1,091 Firsties converging on West Point from around the country in the first half of June, followed by 1,091 2LT's spreading to the winds on June 14. When and where does the music stop and the new officers have to sit in their stop move chairs? At West Point? At home? On a beach with a 2 for 1 Tequila Sunrise special?

It would be interesting to hear how USAFA is handling it after graduation yesterday.

I think we are all waiting to see how this will work and how it will affect R-day. I know the announcement will come when it comes but I hope it is soon.

99% official now:

Thayer Hotel is now transferring graduation reservations for a June 13 graduation.

They are trying to call everyone with options, but if you have a reservation you should call ASAP. They have three weddings scheduled for that weekend and will not be able to accommodate all graduation reservations, unless enough parents decide to cancel.

Note: Many decisions still to be made, including whether parents will be able to attend. If parents can't attend, Thayer will allow cancellation.

If this becomes official I am assuming bringing other classes back and R-day will need to be moved by at least a couple weeks?

I would not make any assumptions rather wait for guidance from West Point.

Definitely interesting to watch. Along with no new start dates for CCC as of this month, TRADOC also has stopped starting new BOLC classes until things settle out. I would anticipate they go to a limited model like BCT/AIT if this continues through the summer because of the surge of newly commissioned LTs that will need to be occupied in some fashion but definitely thankful not a problem set I’m being asked to figure out at any of the CoEs!

Not necessarily, but certainly possible. The original COVID-19 response plan incorporates a delay of up to two weeks for R-Day. Although you should continue to plan for the currently scheduled June 29 R-Day, be prepared for a 1-2 week change to that date.

While there are many unknowns, one thing is certain - The Thayer Hotel is changing reservations to a June 13 graduation, which means many decisions have been made and will be announced shortly.

Class of 2020 returns to West Point in the third week of May and will be quarantined at Camp Buckner for at least two weeks - to prevent spreading COVID-19 in West Point community by those coming in from all parts of the country. They graduate on June 13, but date of rank will still be May 23.

2020 is the luckiest class in academy history - they get to experience "the best summer of their lives", twice. 😉
