This fall I will be a high school senior. I am not particularly concerned about my academics, I am a little concerned about my fitness, and I am very concerned about my leadership experience.

I have a 1410 on the SAT, although I am scheduled to take it again in September and I have gotten 1450s on my last two practice exams. I have an unweighted GPA of 3.82 at a very prestigious and rigorous high school.

I ran the full PFT this morning and scored a 92.1. I ran 1.5 miles in 10:56 (55.7 points), my Abdominal Circumference is 31 (20 points), I did 50 push-ups in 1 minute (8.4), and I did 49 sit-ups in 1 minute (8). That being said, I have ramped up my training regimen this summer and have already noticed a significant improvement in my scores, so I think I can raise them even further without an issue.

My leadership experience is limited. During my upcoming senior year, I will the Co-Captain (1 of 2) on the Varsity Mens Tennis Team, and I have varsity letters all 3 years so far with a 4th all but guaranteed. I was a Co-Captain of the Mock Trial Team (1 of 2) last year, and I will be again next year. My biggest concern here is that on the AFROTC application I cannot explain that I WILL be a captain next in 12th grade, and I can only attest to what I've done between grades 9-11.

1. Is there any way I can communicate the fact that I am a leader on the tennis team?
2. I read on another forum that I'm not even allowed to discuss my captaincy (or anything else I plan to do senior year) during my interview; is this true?
3. Is there any way for me to bolster the leadership portion of my resume further, considering I am already entering my senior year?
4. What do you all think of this packet as a whole? Do I have a decent shot at getting in?

I'm almost certain AFROTC only considers stuff through junior year. I know there must be a post here somewhere by @Pima where you can confirm it using the search function.

A little advice. You posted the same question for the AROTC scholarship. You received some good advice about not playing the comparison game. Yes - you are a strong candidate. Will you receive a scholarship? Who Knows. Take a few hours/days and read the thousands of posts on this forum and educate yourself on the process. Become a "student" of the process.

You are so right. I am a textbook over-thinker. I was working on my application when I found out that I couldn't declare that I was a sports co-captain, and it sent my anxiety and over-thinking qualities into overdrive. I will do my best to avoid comparing myself with others, despite my natural inclination to get all the answers in that way. You are entirely right on the second count as well: I can learn from threads that are not my own just the same without consuming anyone else's time. I appreciate the feedback.

Remember, everyone else is operating under the same restrictions.

I am not sure what changes may have been made, but when my son went to his interview last year, he was asked about his leadership relating to his Eagle Scout project that was done during the first half of his senior year. He brought a resume with him that (I think) listed his current activities/positions.

You can discuss your being selected as co-captain in the interview. Don't worry too much about the AFROTC only using years 1-3 - you were a Captain last year after all for Mock Trial. I have three kids get AFROTC scholarships and they were in the same boat as you. I'm guessing there are leadership examples you can give of where you made the right choices in a social or classroom setting.
I wasn't aware that AFROTC cared about your waist size. Is this new or something my kids never mentioned?
Keep in mind that the interview is the biggest part of the package (I recall that being posted somewhere in this board).

I was a bit surprised to see the "abdominal circumference" metric as well, but it is on the chart which the AFROTC linked on their website. It is the second most weighted metric, behind the 1.5-mile run and ahead of the push-ups and sit-ups. https://www.afpc.af.mil/Portals/70/...AGEMENT/03_Fitness Program/Fitness Charts.pdf

Explain what it means to be a leader on your Tennis team. Express how you have helped your team better itself while also learning yourself. I believe it’s just as important to be a good follower as it is to be a good leader, so show all aspects. What you have learned from failing and what you have learned from succeeding. I had to write my essays for the NROTC MO scholarship this year based on leadership. You’re a strong candidate, you got this mate, good luck.
