Hello everyone!
I am currently a 3/C midshipman at USNA and I was wondering how long company officers stay at the Naval Academy? My company officer is leaving after two years but I am not sure if that is normal or not.

Thanks for the responses in advance.

P.S. feel free to direct message me with any questions regarding life as a mid!

Back in my day, two years was pretty much the norm. Some extended a little if they were enrolled in grad school.

There was a recent thread with a similar question. You may want to search for it.

Two to three years is a normal shore/non-operational duty rotation. Rule of thumb is 30% of a crew, from CO to seaman, changes every year. During your years at USNA, your company officer, SEL, BattO, Dant and possibly Supe will change. Just like the Fleet or Corps.

Sometimes it depends on the warfare community or what the officer needs to do next in his or her career progression. They may already have done the one-year Master’s in Leadership Company Officer program and then over to two years in the Hall. They may be separating and want to ensure they do the required number of years for full post-9/11 GI Bill educational benefits, so they work a deal with their detailer for that. Or they do a year as a company officer and get picked up to be the Supe’s aide for another two, a real plum.

Edit: It was your own thread. Similar answers.
