How long does a waiver request decision take?

I got DQ'd back in 8.17 for USNA for a past shoulder dislocation. Since then I received a notice from West Point stating that they had requested a waiver for me 20 days later. And I have not received a single word from USNA about being granted or denied a request for waiving my DQ. Does anyone know how long this might take?

It all depends. My understanding is that now they will only start a waiver review if a candidate is competitive and being looked at for an appointment. The resident BGOs will correct me if I'm wrong.

Every SA does things differently and each one is in charge of their own waiver process as the demands of each service are different. You may not know anything until much later in the process.

Do you already have a nomination? That might also answer how fast they would take a look at things medically.

I have received a ROTC nomination. It has not updated in the portal yet though.

That might move things along quicker. Are you a college re-applicant, or a HS applicant?

The close of nomination submissions and applications is 1/31/24. Unless an applicant is highly desired by the Academy (sports, academics off the charts, etc.), then they will typically wait to "close out" the slates for nominations until after that date.

In general, if I remember correctly, they only can appoint 20 people using an ROTC nomination (from HS or college) per class. It is a fairly large pool of candidates that get ROTC noms competing for an incredibly small slate. You would have to be at the top of the list across the board for them to pull off there now, imho.

Got it, I'm aiming to gaining the MOC and Senator nominations as well, but I do have ROTC nominations on my file as "back-ups".

Good call. Always apply for any and all noms that are available to you. That offers admissions more options to place someone if they really want them but there are stronger candidates on a slate.

I was disqualified in August, waiver requested in late March, submitted everything they requested by the weeks end, was accepted on 28 April. So they might take a minute to request the waiver.
