How long does the medical waiver review process take?

After being deemed a competitive candidate the medical waiver review process is underway but how long does that take? It is hard because is seems like 99% of the high school class knows where they are going and schools and coaches are asking for commitments but DD keeps hanging in there hoping for an appointment. DODMERB said 4-6 weeks still but how backed up can they still be at this time of the year? It is frustrating not knowing understanding more of how that process is working and the timelines behind the scenes.

You'll know if you're competitive when USAFA informs you they have requested a waiver on your behalf. Some of the labeling in the DoDMERB system can be confusing - but you will know for sure when a waiver review has been requested.

DD started her medical in September and a waiver was granted mid Feb after submitting 5 rounds of AMI. It takes until it is done is the best answer you are going to get. It is a different process depending on what the DQ is for. Some conditions are easy, others require specialized testing. We are still waiting or USNA. So there is no specific time. The good news is that they deemed you competitive and requested a waiver on your behalf. Even after we got a waiver at USAFA there has been no appointment yet. The wait is brutal. Just know there are many candidates waiting with you! Misery loves company... right???

It varies a lot depending on the type of waiver and other circumstances, but in my case, a waiver was requested on February 9th and got approved on April 10th. I believe my case is one of the worse scenarios.

They first reviewed the information DoDMERB had, then requested an administrative AMI on February 9th. It took about two weeks for me to get them the documents, but on March 19th they requested a medical AMI (another exam). Luckily, at this point in the year DoDMETS was very quick and I was able to get the results to DoDMERB by March 31. From the moment they had all the information they needed it only took about ten days, which is promising. Hopefully your wait wont be too much longer!

We are in the same boat. How were you able to find out if he was competitive?
I found out I was competitive before being medically cleared through a conditional offer of appointment. If you haven't received one yet, theres a good chance you're still competitive, especially since they requested a waiver. Don't let it get you discouraged!
