My DS just had his three interviews earlier this week and was wondering how soon the notifications go out that he received or didn’t receive a nomination.

That is very MOC specific. We heard from one earlier than the other. But I'd say it was about 3 weeks to a month in our state.

It’s sort of like that stuff incontinent people wear- it Depends.

In all seriousness, the MOCs have until 31 January (or maybe it’s 28 feb) to submit their slate so they have that long to submit to the SAs.

It depends on the MOC. Some MOCs have more than one interview session so they have to wait until all are done. Some have only one interview session so they can submit a list right away- if they so choose.

My DD interviewed 1 December last year. She got a letter from the MOC about 2 weeks later.

The other 2 MOCs didn’t interview. One deadline was early. It was like 30 September. She didn’t find out about that until mid-December.

The other MOC had a deadline (again, no interview) of 1 November. She didn’t find out about that until somewhere in the December 20’s.

In Connecticut , DS was notified within a week that he was receiving a Senatorial nomination . Couple of days later he was notified by the 2nd senator and then his congressman that his interviews were cancelled because he had already received a nomination. Apparently CT does not multi-nominate.

Within a few weeks of MOC interview, MOC called my son to congratulate him and told him to keep her personal cell phone if he needed anything.

Senators waited to the last minute to interview and announce.

They have their deadlines and all do things differently.

In PA my son was notified when the nomination came in the mail, which was a few weeks after interviews.

Thanks for all the feedback. Is there any place that lists how many slots a congressman has open for this year?

My son found the staff of the MOC and Senators to be very helpful. If you call them I am sure they would tell you.

And just because they have two slots open doesn’t mean they will use both in a given year.

As others have stated, this is MOC specific, and State specific. Our DD came back from the interview knowing what to expect from a timing standpoint. Not sure if she asked or the information was volunteered. She is very direct so I’m guessing she asked. Her MOC decisions came in 3 to 6 weeks after the interviews and form of notification varied. Best way to find out is for DS to ask MOC’s staff or be patient (which may be the hardest part of the process). Good luck to your DS. The saddest part of the MOC part is my DD knew of candidates who never even heard back from a MOC.

An elected official can choose to submit up to 10 names for each seat available at the SA that they plan to fill each year. The names can all be different, or if they plan to fill two seats, they might duplicate candidates on both slates.

Ours came in the mail. However we heard that the one moc that does a primary called to inform that person that they were primary.

Last year our DS heard back on his first nomination 12 days after the interview via email from his MOC's secretary, this was followed by a posting on their web site listing all of his Service Academy nominees. Then his portal updated showing the nomination 2 days later. Another week later he received certificates for both nominations received in a decorative sleeve. This was a very nice touch.

Another MOC sent out acceptance/rejection letters 3 weeks after the interviews and he did not receive a nomination that time. We never heard back from another MOC after the interview process, but he actually received a USMMA nomination that he never asked for from this MOC. The MOC's secretary had called my DS prior to the interview and asked if he was only interested in WP and USAFA or if he would consider the other academies. He said he was open to all possibilities. A month later he got a message from USMMA saying he had received a nomination and he needed to start the admission process.

This year he interviewed with the first MOC's same panel last Saturday. His field adviser emailed this morning and said he had the nomination and to hurry and complete his CFA since that was his last piece of the puzzle. His portal has already updated showing the nomination. He still has not received the official message from the MOC or his office though. So in our experiences.... it can happen in less than 48 hours or take a month.

FYI, DS is reapplying after not getting accepted last year. After he received his TWE in April, he was granted a full AROTC scholarship that he never applied for. They reached out to him with the offer totally out of the blue. He has enjoyed being a part of the AROTC but he really wants West Point.

The service academy appointment experience is a wild crazy roller coaster ride.
