Hi,
How long is the wait to hear from USNA? I have all my DODMERB quals, MOC nomination, NJROTC nomination, Calculas this year (senior), etc..... The wait is rough! I have 3 state universities that have accepted me but i'm holding out for the big one. Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks, from NC

Until everyone from your slate has submitted their paperwork

I heard through my Congressman's secretary about my appointment earlier this week...try giving your nominating source a call.

Your source would not know if everyone has submitted their paperwork. The MOC finds out the name of the appt. that was charged to them.

Can anyone who has recently been accepted to the citadel tell me what their grades looked like when applying? The Citadel is my dream school, and I would like some guidance in how to salvage what is left of my 11th grade year. My GPA is around 3.85 and I will be taking the SAT may 3, but I got a 1930 on the psat. I am taking all IB classes, and i was in NJROTC color guard commander, But had to get out b/c of IB, and I am now in Sea Scouts, and in Odyssey of the mind. My class rank is top 25%. What are my chances?

but i can tell you that you have a great shot with your GPA and PSAT. i was accepted to vmi and citadel and have the impression citadel accepts a large percentage of ppl. are you doing any varsity sports?

Any Rumors?

Hi,
Thank you for all the comments. Has anyone heard even a rumor about appointments going out from the Evaluation Board?

Quite a few people have reported receiving appointments on the collegeconfidential.com discussion boards. My son also has not heard anything.

This is total speculation based on how I would go about the appointment process so take it as nothing more than that but my guess is that, after March 1, the review board identifies the top candidate from each remaining congressional district, makes an offer, then goes through and makes offers for all the at large slots to the highest whole person scorers of the rest, and if the acceptance rate is lower than expected, makes offers to the highest whole person scorers of the remaining. If the process is as I described, I have to believe they are well into matching up the at large candidates to available slots.

The website indicates most should know by April 15 and if I understand the process correctly, there's a courtesy week built in to the notification process to let MOCs notify candidates and then another week built in to mail and have the candidate take receipt of the appointment, so it seems like we would be getting close end of the main selection process.

Again I'll state my disclaimer. That's total speculation. I work in systems development and so I tend to over think these types of things.

Hurry up and wait

I have been Congressionally nominated my Congressman, Jerry Costello, and my Senator, Barack Obama. I am fully qualified medically and academically, and submitted all my paperwork in late August. I am still waiting, and it is killing me.

I called the Naval Academy and the lady in the admissions office said that the Academy has until mid-April to send the acceptance letters out. But the person you received your nomination from will know before you, so give them a call and ask if it is their policy to let their nominee know if their office has received anything. My congressman will personally call the nominee and let them know, so I'm sure other nomination sources will do the same.

trojanbunny-

When you called them did they indicate to you whether they had used your congressman's open slot already and/or if you were competing for an at large slot? My son is in the same situation as you and we've been assuming that the fact we haven't heard anything is an indicator that he did not get the appointment guaranteed to our congressman.

I know that for my state, they chose the top pick in each slate in the beginning of March, and then either forwarded the remaining 9 tot he national pool, or sent out rejection letters to those who weren't strong enough (such as myself).

Last year, my son was referred to the Foundation. As SOON as his app was complete, he got a letter referring him...back in November. Within a day or so, he got a letter from the Foundation--to which he immediately applied and was accepted. He visited prep schools and had everything all set.

He got the "official" word on April 9 last year that the USNA was not accepting him, but encouraged him to pursue the Foundation scholarship. KInd of after-the-fact, since he'd long since followed that road.

Mid-April seems to be the final round of letters.....here's hoping for you!

shoes-

My congressman can nominate 10 people, but this year he only nominated seven, which led me to believe that he has three appointees at the Academy right now, because senators and representatives can only have five at the Academy at one time. So I am competing with the other six nominees for one of two spots offered by my congressman.

I hope I answered your question well enough.

trojan,

most of the time, an MOC only has one spot and they will nominate 10 for it. what leads to you believe that your MOC would nominate fewer people when he has more spots available?

Thanks. Actually I was thinking from your earlier post that you had inquired with you congressman's office to see if they had received and appointment for his/her vacancy (probably 1 but possibly more) for this year. I'm assuming at this point that he/she has and that the other 6 are waiting for an at large spot or for the candidate with the appointment to possibly reject it. Most likely the reason the slate has 7 nominees is that there were either only 7 applicants or there were only 7 applicants for whom they were willing to give nominations. For each vacancy, your congressman would probably nominate up to 10 candidates. If he/she had two vacancies and there were enough applicants, there would be 20 nominations.

lol your chances are really good. I got in with less than that but turned it down fort Naval Academy prep. Hate to say it but in my opinion they are fairly easy to get into..
