How to end a letter respectfully

Hello all,

I was wondering if it would be disrespectful for me to end a letter to a USMC GySgt with "Semper Fi". I'm writing to thank him for administering PT sessions over the summer that I attended, and that really changed my life and inspired me to follow a USMC officer path. I certainly haven't earned the title yet, though, so would it be wrong for me to end the letter in this way?

Thanks for any advice or insight!!

First, good for you to be sending a letter and being thoughtful about it.

With snail mail, email and online conversations, it’s difficult to convey tone, what we all augment words with voice inflection, facial expression and body language. Misinterpretation can occur.

I recommend being safe and conservative with the standard “Sincerely.” Let the body of your letter address what you really want to convey.

I always use "Respectively"
I hope not, and Siri has inserted herself incorrectly here by using “Respectively.”“Respectfully” is the term used in military-military correspondence, depending on relative rank. There are additional terms used between juniors and seniors, but that’s for military-military, not the issue here. A civilian correspondent may choose whatever they wish.

Yes, "Respectfully", thanks for the catch
