Hello there,

I was awarded a 4-year AROTC scholarship during the first board. I chose to accept my scholarship to one of my reach schools, the University of Virginia, and unfortunately I heard last night I was not accepted. I just was just hoping to gather some information regarding what I should do next? Should I wait to hear back from all the rest of my schools and then pick one to request a transfer of my scholarship to? Should I already try and contact someone and notify them that I was denied from the school I accepted the scholarship to? Any helpful information regarding this process will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Search through past threads, there has been a lot of information written about transferring scholarships.

In the packet that they mailed you there should be information detailing exactly the steps you need to take to attempt a transfer. Last year my son transferred his scholarship. The difficulty is that you have to wait until after April for a decision from Cadet Command.
It can't hurt to reach out to the ROO at the remaining schools to let them know you're interested.

Here's a thought... Contact the PMS at UVA and see if he/she or the ROO has any influence with Admissions.

Failing that, I assume UVA has an appeals process for admissions. You have nothing to lose by informing them of your AROTC scholarship which is only applicable o UVA.

Who knows, the back door often gives better results than the front door. I'll bet you have about a 25% chance of making something happen through either or both of those channels.

I agree contact the PMS. Not trying to be Debbie Downer, but a few years back there was a UVA admissions poster and they had stated that they do not talk because UVA already had a very high matriculation rate for the students that were accepted. UVA has been for years deemed in the top 5 state colleges in the nation and known as a public ivy.
~ As a VA resident many students apply to UVA as their reach school, especially if VT, GMU, JMU or VCU are their matches. It is not uncommon for them to have 30k+ applicants. It is a flagship state university.

I also would say from my limited knowledge from this site, that just because one person had no issue does not mean that it is common. Jcleppe, EDelahanty, -Bull- or clarkson will correct me, but I believe the chances change depending on the school you are trying to transfer the scholarship to for matriculation
