How were you notified of your MOC Nom?

Hi our DS got his nomination call today from our MOC, usually how long is the wait for appointment or rejection?? He does not have LOA so does that mean the wait is longer?? Our MOC just submits ten names for his slate, does that statistically mean our DS has 1:10 chance of getting in?? Also will my son have an advantage if there hasn't been an appointment to USNA from his high school in over 30+ yrs? His school is very excited he came this far:)
Most likely you won't know until at least March, but no way to tell for sure. The only reason we know he got an appointment this early is he did have an LOA.

Along that same questioning, my DD'S high school has sent one to USNA every year for the past 4 years (possibly more years, I don't know). Does that help or hinder....or not matter at all?

So difficult to know how kids are chosen? Any child who came this far & with nom must be super bright & talented, guess what's more important would be who is her competition within her school, chances slim of 2plus kids getting in unless it is a very large school?? Also you said DD so I think she might hv higher chance?

I never got notified for either of my two appointments! I just looked in my applications and it said the SA had received my MOC nomination.

Just to be clear for all lurkers reading this, appointments are not the same as nominations. Appointments are from the Academies and nominations are from MOC. You must have at least one nomination to receive an appointment.

Well, I am a bit biased ;) But all these candidates are amazing!

My daughter is the only one applying to USNA from her school this year (there is also a boy applying to USMA). So there is no competition within her school, just previous grads have gone to USNA (and AFA & WP).

Her competition is within our district (and later national pool if she doesn't win the slate). She is friends with another boy on her MOC nom slate, they work out with the same group. But he's also applying to AFA, so she's been cheerfully encouraging him to choose AFA, haha! They are about equal in stats. That's the only other candidate in our area she knows.

EOD/SEALmom and Blessedmom, it does not matter whether or not one, two or twenty students are sent to the Academy from the same school. If they meet the criteria and the Academy wants them and they receive a nomination, they can be offered an appointment. It will not help nor hinder your DDs chances of an appointment even if 2 students from the same school have been appointed for the past 20 years. What matters is your DDs record and how she compares to the other candidates who receive a nomination for their respective Academies. The admissions panel only looks at the schools to determine how rigorous the curriculum is and how their GPA matches up to other schools with similar curriculums.

There are so many other factors that go into the selection of a candidate. I hope the two of you hear good news in the future. The waiting is the hardest but we are all here waiting and cheering with you. Good luck to your DDs.

Woops, I completely misspoke. I meant to say nominations.

Your competition is not from within the same school, it's from within your entire state and your MOC district.

Oddly enough there are a total of at least 6 kids that already have an appt from my DS HS class this year alone. That is for all of the academies, not NA. 3 are to NA, one of which is via ROTC. Possibly a 4th, she is the local ALO's daughter.

But it's the most crazy competitive class of kids you've ever seen. DS would have been valedictorian any other year, this year he's 12th in his class.

Does SA give extra points to kids who attend competitive schools, my DS school is top 5 school in PA??

Virginia is crazy competitive this year too! Both the senator's office and our congressional office stated these were the most competitive applications they have ever witnessed. Said this year's batch of nominations are outstanding.

That's great news for the USA.

Just joining in now. My son got notification of nomination to the USNA from our MOC on Dec. 15th with a phone call. The MOC said that he was his 'Primary' nomination to the USNA, which we are told that he is 'assured' of an appointment, according to the MOC.
Since our MOC and our Blue and Gold officer has told us that an appointment is forthcoming, we are just waiting for the actual appointment from the USNA to make it official.

Has anyone else received a 'Primary' or 'Principal' nomination?

He also received a nomination (not primary) to the USMA and the USMMA.
