And adding Lyme Disease...^ I thought it was going to involve diluting the Corona with Budweiser.
A bubblehead friend of mine sent these to me today.
He says that this has been widely known on submarines for many years, but is now declassified:
The corpsman is Luis Fonseca. He was awarded the Navy Cross as an HN, E-3. When my son was between PLC juniors and seniors I called in a favor and got a tour of the USS Bataan which was inport Norfolk. We were met at the quarterdeck by an HM1 who first took us to medical. He introduced us to Luis who was sweeping the passageway. The last I heard of him he was an HM1 somewhere. With those award points I’m sure he had no trouble making HMC.
Edit: I read the Wiki page I posted and Luis was an E-2 during the Battle of Nasiriyah.

Thanks Proud Pops, I’m one as well. Well, two as well. Proud pop and proud doc. I’m retired now but stay in touch with the community. Thanks for posting...I sailed over on the USS BATAAN (LHD 5) and rolled into rolled into Nasiriyah on that fateful day with RCT-2. Heavy. Much has been written about it, but definitely epitomized the fog-of-war up to that point of OIF-1. Can‘t say enough good things about our “docs”...heroes on so many levels. Glad to see Doc Fonseca get his due. Semper Fidelis.
@Proud_Pops I meant to write more but my dog is going through late life dementia type issues and he needed my attention. The early days of that war were no doubt intense, Nasiriyah in particular, and many battles are now part of the Lore of the Corps. I'm glad you made it out of there. Thanks Proud Pops, I’m one as well. Well, two as well. Proud pop and proud doc. I’m retired now but stay in touch with the community.
