Hold a thought tonight for folks in affected areas as Laura pounds inland and the eyewall hits. I’m up late watching the Weather Channel coverage, hoping people were able to get themselves, their pets and domestic livestock out. Twenty foot storm surge, possibly 40 miles inland, and 100+ mph winds expected - that means the roof of a one story house won’t be safe. Spawning tornados expected.

Growing up in coastal Georgia, I experienced some stomach-churning storms, and some part of me feels like I have to keep watch somehow. I’m headed to bed now, but I think we are going to be seeing some sad video coverage.

Very few state requests for DoD support pre-landfall.

Coastal States are better prepared for these storms based on lessons of Katrina and proven National Response Framework.

There are federal assets on a short string and prepared to move to support if requested by FEMA - high water vehicles and helicopters with appropriate C2.

We also stayed up late watching TWC. Shocking the strength she garnered, they were expecting a level 2 or 3. And it blew up to a 4 in a short time yesterday afternoon. Sounds like it hit as an actual 5? Unbelievable. I have a greater respect after going through our recent Derecho. About 3k still without power 2.5 weeks later. Feel like temps yesterday of 100.

Is 2020 over yet??

Prayers 🙏

I feel their pain. Lived through several on the NC coast but nothing like this one. Prayers for the people there.

Nope, a CAT 4.

CAT 5 is 156 mph winds. Laura hit with 150 MPH.

WOW.
