Hello all,

Currently going through the DODMERB process. If the waivers I am seeking are hypothetically denied, would I be able to retain my scholarship as I go to school in the fall and have it activated if I am able to successfully appeal said waiver denials? Or is the scholarship forfeited if I am not medically qualified by the fall? Thanks.

I can't answer you question definitively, so I won't bother; but in case it makes a difference which ROTC program are we talking about?

You cannot contr ct until you are medically qualified.
No contract, no money.
You would participate in AROTC while a waiver is pending.
They know when you are due to contact and should resolve it before then.

AJC is correct. You cannot contract until you are not only medically qualified, but also pass the PFT. You will participate while they work through the paperwork.

Personally, I would suggest that if you need the scholarship to attend the college you should take this time and think about your plan B.

Best of luck

Another option is talk to your future ROTC Battalion Commander, advise him of the situation, and see if he can help. There also 3yr ROTC Scholarships where you go for your Freshman year, participate in ROTC voluntarily, then your Commander puts you in for the 3yr ROTC Scholarship after you have shown you can fully participate for the first year. Also, many universities work hand in hand with their ROTC Divisions and offer 1 yr academic scholarships knowing that you can most likely get that waiver after the first year.

They are out there...Good Luck!
